Halloween Pumpkins non Carved Jack Olanterns Halloween Decorations
When one thinks of Halloween images of carved pumpkins with grinning faces immediately come to mind. They are classic after all. Well, some folks do not want to go the classical route, and they most assuredly do not have to. There are many things that can be done to a pumpkin to keep with the seasonal theme, some can even be held onto for Thanksgiving!
One great way to decorate a pumpkin is bydecoupagingit. Which is a fancy word for gluing on flat items and varnishing over them, giving a glossy sheen to the decoration. Pictures from magazines, strips of paper, sequins, spangles, ribbons and stickers are all great items to use to decorate your pumpkins. Imaginations can fly with this style. Collages, faces, designscan all be made in this fashion. Giving your pumpkin a stalkers cut out letter note can be a real kicker when written toungu and cheek fashion. When it comes to the varnish there are many options. Plain and glossy, sparkles, and even glow in the dark!
Using other natural elements to decorate your pumpkins is both easy and cheap. If you have pumpkins in your area chances are you have leaves. These can be decoupaged on as well. Other items that can be used by either inserting them into the pumpkins or gluing them on is wheat, corn husks, sticks, gourds, apples, pears, corn silk and nuts. The pumpkin can be the center point of a beautiful center piece by encircling it with pine cones, nuts, wheat ect. If you need a bit more of a base use a foam or grapevine wreath that the pumpkin can sit on but not cover completely, then use the wreathe to attach the other decoration. Spiced pine cones andpomanderscan both visually as well as by adding an aromatic layer.
One may believe that candy would be reserved for decorating ginger bread houses but that just isn't so! Candy corns can become a lions mane or witches teeth. Cotton candy makes for awesome spider webs and let's just say the array of gummy creatures and items is endless. For an edible version use the standard royal icing, for durability go with craft glue. Yummy, yummy pumpkins!
Recycle, recycle, recycle! Have some used red candles? Then a gory pumpkin you can have! It's as easy as sticking in an old knife or pitch fork into the pumpkin. Then dripping the red wax over the "wound". Simple as that. It will look like your poor pumpkin is bleeding out all over. If you like, plastic bugs and worms can be added to enhance the effect, or maybe even a plastic rat. Happy Halloween everyone!
