Halloween Decorations Mummies

From 3arf

Halloween is a really fun time of the year for everyone, and you can help children get involved in the fun by helping them to create mummy decorations.  These are very simple to make, and can add a little spookiness to the home for the spooky holiday season.

All you will need to make the mummy is any child’s doll, bigger is probably better, a little tape, some kind of cotton that can be cut into strips, for example an old T-shirt, some scissors and a little dirt.

Step 1

Cut the cotton into strips with the scissors.  Be careful that you are cutting the strips into sensible widths dependent on the size of the doll that you will be using.  It is a good idea to do this for young children, or if the children are a little older, they should be supervised if they are going to be using scissors to cut the strips themselves.

Step 2

Start mummifying the doll!  You may want to use a little tape to secure the leading end of the cotton strips.  You should begin with the doll’s head.  Encourage the child to wrap the cotton strips quite tightly without squeezing the doll out of shape, but remember to leave small gaps where the doll’s eyes are.  When the end of the strip is reached, secure in place with a little tape before moving on to the next strip.  You only need to overlap the edges of each of the cotton strips – there is no need to wrap the strips around over and over again.

Once the head is completely covered in the cotton strip bandages, you can start working down the neck.  You may need to go over the bandages of the arms and legs twice just to make sure that all the doll is covered.  You can either secure the very end of the cotton strip bandages with tape or just tuck the end underneath a nearby piece of bandage.

Step 3

To finish off the bandaging, make a criss-cross of bandages between the shoulders and then cut off a few smaller strips of bandage and attach those to areas on the mummy so that it gives a little more worn appearance to your creation.

Step 4

To make the mummy look like it is ancient, get the dirt and rub it into the cotton strips all over the doll.  You don’t need to make sure that it looks even, but the dirt will just give a weathered appearance to the bandages.

Your mummy is now ready to be a decoration for your home, or to accompany your child on a trick or treat trip.
