Ford Unveils new Explorer

It might not even be April yet, but the motor industry is already looking to next year's models! Veteran motor manufacturer Ford has unveiled a new model of their Explorer SUV. The Ford 2013 Explorer Sport was unveiled on 28 March 2012, according to a report fromSlashgear. The new Explorer is a four door only model powered by a 3.5-liter V6 twin turbo EcoBoost engine, and should be available from the Autumn, and certainly before the end of the year.

With the engine putting out 350hp, and Ford promising up to 16 mpg in city driving and 22 mpg on the highways, the 2013 Explorer is looking like a great combination of power and efficiency. Electric power assisted steering comes as standard, with a faster steering ratio for extra responsiveness. Ford have also fitted larger brakes to give shorter stopping distances and improve performance while towing. Certainly the early indications are that Ford are putting a lot of effort into doing their best to ensure the 2013 Explorer Sport handles brilliantly under all conditions.

Other innovations include the transmission. With a 3.16 to 1 final drive ratio which helps boost acceleration, the paddle shift six-speed SelectShift transmission is expected to be a bit hit with many of Ford's customers.

Other Ford crossover features of the car will include not only four wheel drive, but an onboard Terrain Management System, rear view camera for parking and other manoeuvering, blind spot information system (BLIS) and other parking assist features, as well as SYNC with MyFord Touch driver connect technology. Many drivers will of course be more concerned that there will be stacks of storage space, but it has to be said that Ford are packing the car with useful electronic features.

The Explorer will be offered in four colours: red, white, black and silver. Sorry, that's ruby-red, white platinum, tuxedo black metallic and ingot silver metallic. The names of car colour schemes get more unintentionally hilarious every year. Inside, the adjectives calm down a bit, and lucky drivers and passengers alike will find the Explorer decked out in black leather trimmed seating.

On sale later this year and manufactured at Ford's Chicago assembly plant, Ford have not yet confirmed a price tag for the 2013 Explorer, but motorists will be keen to get their hands on the new vehicle, which combines rugged SUV practicality with a high degree of luxury comfort and eco-friendly fuel efficiency.
