Ford Edge vs Toyota Venza
Both the 2011 Ford Edge and the 2011 Toyota Venza are very comparable cars. They are both five door crossover type SUVs, seat five people, and cost around the same amount of money. Both are great cars and most people would be happy with either of them, but which is better when you get right down to it? In this article the Ford Edge SEL and the Toyota Venza V6 AWD specifically will be compared.
The Edge has an MSRP of $30,500 and comes equipped with a 3.5L V6 engine that produces around 285HP. The mileage for this crossover is surprisingly good with it getting 19 in the city and 27 on the highway for combined miles per gallon of 22. Front wheel drive is standard in this car but if you want all wheel drive, and do not mind spending a little extra, you can get it as an option. It comes standard with cloth seats and Sirius radio. The back row of seats folds flat with a simple push of the button to give you ample room for groceries or a pair of golf clubs.
The Venza is priced at $30,400 and also comes with a 3.5L V6 engine but it produces almost 20 less horsepower. It also gets fewer miles per gallon with only 18 in the city and 25 on the highway. The dip in both horsepower and mpg can be attributed to the fact that this model comes standard with all wheel drive, which the ford does not. The all wheel drive version comes standard with 20 inch alloy wheels. The back seats also easily fold down in the Venza giving it the same carrying capacity as the ford.
So they both cost about the same amount of money and even have the same crash test rating, which is four stars. They come comparably equipped and have the same engine. But the Toyota is the better car. That’s for one simple reason; the Toyota comes standard with all wheel drive. AWD gives the driver better traction in the adverse conditions on the road and is a valuable safety feature even if you do not plan on going off road. The options, power, mpg and size are all so similar that a $100 difference in price and standard all wheel drive makes the difference in this comparison. The Toyota is the better car for your money.
