Employers Allowed Myspace Youtube Facebook Accounts Basis Hiring Firing – No

Employers and Government are way too involved in peoples personal lives. There should be a set of methods and standards of employment none of which should include personal lives. If one wants to ride a Harley and raise hell on the weekend so be it. As long as the person is showing up for work and getting the job done that should be all that matters.

I am and have been an employer and I couldn't care less what a person does on HIS time. Because that's what it is, HIS time. The surfer character, Spicolli, in the movie "Fast times at Ridgemont high" said it best, " if I'm here and your here, doesn't that make it our time"? Which is correct and when it's not OUR time then it's THEIR time. If someone is not on the clock then I have no control over what someone does, nor should I. There are some strict organizations that have people in the public eye and who mandate a certain rule of conduct. An example of this is NFL cheerleaders, they can't be strippers or shed any sort of negative light on the sport of football. This is a bit different than the everyday person like you and I.

I think society knows and understands that we all act differently in the office and out of the office. In the office no one would know unless they went to dinner after hours with me that I'm a pretty fun guy, and can get rowdy if I feel like it. In the office it's all business and conservative is the order of the day. Some don't know how to turn off the fun or the worry of outside the office and for those maybe a watchful eye can be directed at those types, otherwise people should be free to do what they want.

If we continue to let employers profile us it will become widely accepted which will not be good for anyones freedoms and privacy. Things are creeping in on all us little by little that destroy our freedoms and it should not be taken lightly. There is a camera on every corner, ok we accepted that, now there are red light cameras that make money for the city day and night which is fleecing the public. We don't know how those cameras are calibrated, I've heard of tickets being issued on legal right on red light turns because the car was in the intersection. It's getting ridiculous and if we give that kind of power to employers it's just one more freedom we won't have. Pretty soon, with the background check and the ability of the employer to try to get the pick of the straight laced litter we won't have much of an economy because no one will be fit to work for these overly picky employers, meanwhile affirmative action is running full force in some states. None of this makes sense and hopefully we'll stand up for our rights in the face of such employers.
