Chevrolet Corvette Overrated
For more than half century, the name "Corvette" has been as synonymous with America as apple pie. Each generation of this car has filled the imaginations, the dreams and the desires of automotive enthusiasts worldwide. Each new Corvette model has pioneered advances in automotive technologies, horsepower, performance and drivability. Their bold lines and sensual curves are inspiring to the young and old alike, and there have been few other sports cars that have been as widely sought after as the Chevrolet Corvette.
With all of that in mind, is the Chevy Corvette overrated? Most definitely not! If anything, the Corvette is entirely underrated. The newest iteration of the Corvette - the C6 model - is a performance driven machine that rivals Ferrari, Porsche and Lamboroghini, but at a small fraction the cost. These new Corvettes come stock with a 400+ horsepower engine and are capable of going from 0 to 60 in just 4.3 seconds. Even more impressive is that, despite these intense statistics, the C6 still manages 16mpg during city driving and 26 mpg on the freeway, blending performance with economic practicality. While these numbers may not reflect the kind of fuel economy associated with the hybrids of today, they are still immensely impressive for any sportscar.
Of course, the Corvette is not only known for it's performance aspects. These cars feature some of the most cutting edge technologies found in the automotive industry. Each Corvette comes with an impressive BOSE stereo system, which pumps out heart pounding music with exhilerating clarity. The stero systems feature MP3 CD drives, available XM stereo receivers, single or multi disc CD changers, and an amazingly interactive interface that allows a completely customizable stereo experience. The car's also come stock with leather lined seats, 5 point safety restraints (on the Z06 models), a digital odometer that also doubles as a driver interface, providing important data such as tire pressure, road conditions, maintenance schedules and much more. The standard features associated with the Corvette are more comprehensive than most vehicles in any price class.
Topping it all off, the Corvette is hand assembled, and each car is truly a piece of art. When purchasing a Corvette, the new owner can take possession of his car in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and is able to enjoy an experience that includes a tour of the Corvette plant, the Corvette museum and a ceremony where the car is unveiled to the new owner. Owners can also watch the assembly of their own Corvette if they so choose as part of the experience.
While many speculate that some generations of the Corvette were better than others, there is no doubt that the American Sports Car of the 21st Century is, and will always be the Chevrolet Corvette. Even when rivaled by such beheomoths as the Dodge Viper or the Ford GT (both of which cost nearly double that of the Corvette), it is easy to understand why the Corvette has become such an integral part of the American Dream
