Beware Medical Billing Scams
Hi,We've all seen and heard advertisements about Medical Billing or Medical Claims Processor/Specialist. Medical Billing can be/is a good job if you're working for a Doctor's office,hospital,or clinic. If you're trying to make this into a work from home business without experience,"You Can Forget It!"I want to share my experience and help prevent others from being scammed as I was.
Here's my story;
During the Summer of 2006,I wanted to start a work from home business.I wanted to do something that was relatively inexpensive,rewarding and involving data entry.So,I've decided to check out the classified section in my local newspaper.(Some classified sections have a section for business opportunity)as I was reading,I noticed an ad stating,"Data Entry,Computer Needed,Work Anywhere!I called the 800 number that was listed with the ad,I asked alot of question about the program. The name of the company is United Career Systems,this company offers an online Medical Billing training that can be downloaded.This program is very intense. It entails passing a series of online test with 90% or better. The tests consists of everything from learning the parts of the body to guidelines for Medicare/Hippa. It took me one month to finish this program.I spent hours almost everyday learning and studying evrything that I needed to be a Medical Billing Specialist.
I was told by the representative for the company,that passing all the test were necessary in order to get a job working for a Doctor.I was also told that the "Doctors are waiting for trained people to help them process their claims.Let me tell you what a Medical Billing Specialist does.When you go to the doctor,you have to fill out a registration form.This form provides the Doctor with your pertinent information which includes your health insurance info.Some offices have the receptionist to process the claim there which is called "in home." Some offices hire a company usually a repetable company to process their claims. Also, if the Doctor has a small practice he/she will process the claims themselves.
Thus, this doesn't leave any room for a person wanting to start his/her Medical Billing Service from home.The doctors aren't willing to take a chance on you because if the claims aren't process correctly,it can interfere with the Doc's money.(The Doctors get paid based on the claims).So,trying to start a Medical Billing business at home is difficult ,if not impossible.So, I'm telling you this to inform you,"Stay away from the Medical Billing work from home advertisements!" They are a waste of valuable time and money.
P.S. I wasn't able to get a refund from the company.I was told once the program was downloaded on my computer I could copy it and use the info anywhere.
