Best Vegetable Side Dishes for Thanksgiving

The traditional Thanksgiving meal consists of the turkey, potatoes, gravy, and pies. They are an excellent part of the Thanksgiving meal. There are also several side dishes that go great with a Thanksgiving meal. Stuffing is the most common side dish, Broccoli and cheese and, broccoli and cauliflower salad are two other side dishes that add extra flair to the Thanksgiving meal.

Stuffing

Stuffing is a favorite side dish for most all Thanksgiving meals. Most everyone has his or her favorite recipe. Use your own recipe, to make the dish even more special, before cooking it, add olives. Olives will give it a different flavor.

Broccoli and Cheese

Ingredients:

The best broccoli to use for this dish is fresh, but frozen will work.

When using fresh broccoli buy two heads of broccoli

When using frozen broccoli be sure to buy broccoli florets, that way you will not end up with the tough ends. This recipe takes 2 bags of broccoli.

For the Cheese Sauce

2 cups shredded Velveeta Cheese

1 Tablespoon of butter

4 cups of milk

Directions:

Wash, cut up, and cook raw broccoli until it is tender

Cook frozen broccoli until it is tender

While the broccoli is cooking, put the milk, Velveeta, and butter in a saucepan and cook on low heat until the cheese is melted and the sauce is creamy. To prevent sticking stir the sauce frequently.

After the broccoli is cooked, drain it and add the cheese sauce.

Any broccoli lover will enjoy this excellent dish.

Broccoli Cauliflower Salad

Ingredients:

(Fresh vegetables must be used for this dish)

1 head of broccoli

1 head of cauliflower

1 onion

1 green pepper

2 cups mayonnaise

Directions:

Wash the cauliflower and broccoli, and then cut it up. Make sure that the broccoli and cauliflower are cut into florets.  Do not cook them, this is a cold dish.

Cut up the onion

Cut up the green pepper

Mix the broccoli, cauliflower, onion and green pepper in a bowl

Add the mayonnaise and mix well.

This dish tastes best if it is allowed to sit overnight, all of the different flavors mix together.

Keep this dish refrigerated and serve it cold.

The side dishes add extra flair to any meal and are a very important part of the Thanksgiving dinner. Stuffing with olives is a fun addition to the traditional dish. Both of the broccoli dishes will be a different and welcome side dish for the vegetable lovers at any Thanksgiving dinner.
