Baby Boy Names for Thanksgiving Babies
Thanksgiving is a time to offer thanks for the many good things that we have in our lives. It is a time for families to come together. If you're baby is due around Thanksgiving, then you may want to consider giving them a Thanksgiving inspired baby names. These names can be fitting for the season, and also are a lasting reminder that you are thankful for this new member of your family.
Here are some great Thanksgiving inspired names for baby boys for you to choose from.
Jadon/Jaden: Jaden is an old Hebrew name that can be found in the Old Testament, in thebook of Nehemia. This Biblical name means "thankful". This is a great baby boy name that is not obviously seasonal, but has a great Thanksgiving meaning.
Judah: The name Judah is Hebrew, and can be found in the Bible. Judah means "praise" or "thanks", as in to offer praise or thanks. This meaning is perfect for a Thanksgiving baby, and is a name that works well both for little boys and grown men. Jude is a great abbreviation for Judah.
Oceanus: Among the passengers on the Mayflower was a family named Hopkins. This family is actually, several generations back, related to me. I grew up always knowing that on the passage between England and America on the Mayflower, a baby boy was born. He was named Oceanus Hopkins. This name is probably a better choice for a middle name, but is a great piece of Thanksgiving related history. If you don't like Oceanus, consider using his surname, Hopkins, as a very solid boys' name.
Samoset: Most of us know more about the Pilgrims and other settlers who came over in the Mayflower than we do about the Algonkian Indians who were already living in the area. It was their help that taught the struggling settlers how to successfully farm. One of the Native Americans present at the first Thanksgiving celebrations was Samoset, who is known to have spoken English. If Samoset is too unusual for your taste, try just shortening it to Sam.
William: One of the original settlers who left Holland and travelled to America on the Mayflower was William Bradford. In fact, much of the information that we have about the early years in the Plymouth settlement come from William Bradford. He served as governor for over three decades, and he kept records of the experiences of the colonists (including writing the book A History of Plymouth Plantation. If you don't like the name William, then his last name, Bradford, also makes a good boys' name.
