Annoy co Worker
How do you deal with an annoying co-worker? This is a question I believe everyone has at one point or time in his or her mind.
Question is this, is the person one the following categories: chatterbox, gossiper, bully, instigator, controller, know-it-all, snob, two-faced, or slacker? These are the terms or questions to think about as you decide how to deal with the annoying person. Annoyance comes in many forms and depending upon how you deal with stress and people will decide how you can handle his or her irritations.
Chatterbox – This type of person can talk for hours and not hear a word you say. He or she does not adhere to time constraints at all. Best solution is nonchalantly say I am sorry I am late for a meeting and leave. This is a nicer way of approaching the person who constantly talks.
Gossiper – This type of person talks but not always the truth, if not it is extremely exaggerated. This person is the rumor beginner, he or she will spread rumors about anyone and everyone he or she does not like or likes. This person plays no favorites, unless you have something of substantial amount to offer. This person should in all cases not be trusted and avoided if possible. In the case you meet up with someone like this, simply do not listen to what he or she is saying and do not buy in or believe what you hear. A best response to give is deny everything and walk away.
Bully – This type of person likes to push his or her weight around to manipulate and get his or her way. The best solution is to stand firm your ground and not budge, he or she is another co-worker and the work environment should not be hostile in any sense. If the problem continues, keep notes or documentation of the incidents and refer to either your supervisor or his or her supervisor. This way upper management will deal with him or her issues at the work place.
Instigator – This type of person is also known as the backstabber, he or she loves to start something between people or upper management. He or she will continually tattle tale or call your business out to the view of your supervisor. This reaction is no doubt, in the hopes you will get into trouble with your supervisor or upper management. The best route to take with this type of individual is documentation and covering your tracks. If you can make sure you are efficient and detailed enough to cover yourself, you are safe.
Controller – This type of individual is either the King or Queen on the chess board, or so he or she would like to be. He or she has an undesirable urge to continually rule over others, be the one with the last say, or be in control of everything and everyone. The best solution for this type is understand your position in your job. If you know your job inside and out, there is no way he or she can get control over you. Another point is remember this is a job and you can control how you react to this person. Do not react, they feed off of negative behavior, so do not feed them.
Know-it-all – This type is also known as a busy body too. This type can be of benefit or harm to you in your personal or professional life. In your personal life, this is the person telling you to not do all these things because it is unacceptable or do these things because it is better. Professionally he or she might be the busy body of the office, always wanting to know and do everything. He or she knows everything and what you know is not good enough. The only benefit to this person on a personal level is he or she may be knowledgeable in certain areas you are not, but that is about all good they are professionally. Best solution for this type of person is agree to disagree. This will put a stopper in the person shorter than you can see.
Snob – This type of person thinks he or she is better than you and you are lesser than. NOT! He or she may think they are better, but they are from making that goal. Best solution for this person is, if you cannot beat them join them, only them. Be a snob back to this person, eventually they will come around and open up. This is called reverse psychology, works wonders for the most part.
Two-faced – This type of person can be referred to as well as a backstabber. He or she will smile at you and then turn around and say a foul word directed to you because they despise you. This person holds a falsehood all on its own. He or she does not know loyalty or compassion. They hide behind their false face or identity to masquerade about the room. Best solution for this person is ignore them entirely. Do not take anything this person says seriously or lightly. Ignore them and do not give them ammunition to turn around on you.
Slacker – This type of person does nothing and still gets paid. He or she is a friend or close to someone in upper management. Another possibility could be he or she is very well defined and attuned to butt kissing. Best solution for this person is to report him or her to your supervisor and document what you have done as far as reporting. If nothing is done, simply take it a higher level in management.
