From 3arf

The American Nurses Association teams up with all medical facilities, in order to celebrate nurses in every city and town. Usually, May 6th thru 12th is set aside for everyone to say thank you, for all that nurses do for us. In an effort, to recognize the courage and dedication that is displayed by all nurses in America and Canada. However, there are many other countries have chosen to celebrate their nurses on May 12th or International Nurse's Day.Over the years, nurses have celebrated in honor of Florence Nightingale" (Lewis, 2007), who is also known as "the Lady with the lamp" (Lewis, 2007). She became famous for creating a training program for new nurses, which is followed in today's nursing schools. According to Mr. J. Lewis (2006), she was born on "May 12, 1820" (Lewis, 2007) and she died during the year "1910" (Lewis, 2007". Fortunately, she used her entire life trying to educate others about the skills needed to be a nurse. Many employers give out trophies or plaques, for the nurses that they work with. Also, some employers will sponsor a nice banquet or give out gift certificates. Most employers will recognize those, who have been named the best in their field. Some hospitals and clinics, may give away small tokens of their appreciation. Also, a lot of regular patients will bring in small gifts or cookies for their favorite nurse. All nurses look forward to this week each year, because their hard work is noticed. Some nurses are given raises and promotions, during this week of celebration. "The American Nurses Association" (TLMahan, 2007) teamed up with "President Regan" (TLMahan, 2007), in order to make "National Nurses Week a success" (ANA, 2007). Furthermore, it's the millions of men and women nurses, who have made the helped the profession survive over two centuries.

For many have worked hard, in order to learn the skills that they will need to succeed in the profession. Plus, they cared for patients and worked with doctors, who weren't always easy to please at times. Therefore, most nurses work in a stressful profession with long hours, so they know that it takes a special person to be a nurse!
