When you first start any job it can be a daunting thing. You will make lasting friendships and if unlucky maybe a few enemies. But the most important relationship you make at work is with your boss. Like them or hate them they are there for a reason. Their role in the workplace is crucial.

Without them, orders wouldn’t be filled, deadlines wouldn’t be met.

The kind of relationship you have with your boss to a large degree is down to you. Remember when you first start a job your boss doesn’t really know you. All they know is what’s in the information you have given at an interview. So it’s down to you to show them what kind of person you are.

TMBCstates; a study presented by Ateneo centre for organization research and development on employee retention says. The quality of relationship with ones boss is the most important factor employees consider. In deciding whether to stay in a job or leave.

For any good relationship communication is paramount and this is especially important with your boss. For a productive work place communication is a key principle. You can’t run a business without it. There may not be as many chances to build a relationship with your boss but when opportunity presents itself. Be approachable, cheerful and be willing to chat about your self. Listen to your boss let them talk about themselves show an interest. This should be the start of a good working relationship.

Your boss is a human being as well. If you have family problems an understanding boss may be able to help. Work loads may be lightened or they may even give you extended leave taking some pressure off you and allowing you time to get yourself back on track.

Your boss can guide you on advancement through a company so you can achieve your goals and further your career. Some may even help with college or put you on courses to help further your career. Without a good relationship with your boss none of this may be possible.

With a bad working relationship with your boss. Promotion may be held back. You will probably start moaning about your boss believing every boring job you do will probably out of spite. Making a miserable workplace for all. Eventually you may even leave your job

So having a good relationship with your boss is beneficial for both you as the employee and them as the boss. It creates a more satisfied work place and a less stressful work place. Remember they are not only your boss they are their own boss to. And it can be a lonely place at the top.
