ALT-5 What to do when your Oil Light comes on
If your car's oil light comes on, stop immediately! You risk causing major damage to your engine, otherwise. The inconvenience of stopping is nothing compared to the cost of repairing today's automobiles.
This signal light indicates that your oil pressure is not sufficient to lubricate the engine. You must check your motor's oil dip stick to see if you have oil first. If the dip stick does not indicate oil, you cannot safely run the engine until oil has been added. In addition, the small amout of oil left in the engine is probably damaged due to heat. It is only safe to use in to get to an oil change
Upon adding oil, it is safe to restart the car to see if the light has gone out. If so, proceed to your destination. Bear in mind that there is a problem that needs immediate attention. For the oil level to be so low, there is a leak, or you have not been checking your oil level regularly. Check the oil level once again to be sure that it is still within acceptable range.
If your red indicator light did not go out, the car must be serviced before driving any further. A tow would be recommended because damage to the engine could be massive if the oil pump has failed. Heavy engine repair will cost you dearly. The engine must have oil circulating in order for all engine parts to be lubricated properly. This problem cannot be ignored.
Regular maintenance, and checking of fluids is important to keeping your car healthy. Every warning light on your car's dashboard has an important function. None should be ignored. Dependability is essential to driving with peace of mind. In addition, the price that we pay in dollars and cents for forgetting maintenance routines can be significant.
Remembering to do these checks can help you avoid problems on the road, which are never fun. Besides that, roadside breakdowns can be dangerous. For your own safety, and the safety of your family, commit yourself to proper vehicle maintenance. Saving money later on is a nice benefit as well. As much as everyone depends upon their car, how could we not take care of them? Happy motoring!
