ALT-5 Employers Allowed Myspace Youtube Facebook Accounts Basis Hiring Firing – Yes
Yes, employers should be allowed to use Myspace, You Tube and Facebook accounts as a basis for hiring and firing employees. I myself don't have any of these accounts. My reason is so that I am not broadcasting my life into cyberspace, and into the wrong hands.
If people are putting up scandalous pictures, idiotic videos of themselves or are part of unacceptable social circles by all means employers should know. It's basically one of the best background checks that is free. It also show's what a person does in their spare time. If a person doesn't want idiotic things put out there for everyone to see, then by all means they shouldn't have an account in the first place. If people have an account for more positive reasons like promoting themselves in a positive way and networking, an employer may take that into consideration too, or if they have a great layout and work as a graphic designer, etc. it may help advance their career. I even know that some talented artists are found on You Tube, especially singers.
Nowadays they make it too easy for everyone to be some type of celebrity. And it seems everyone wants to be one, hence these sites are making millions.
I say just as with anything else, use moderation and common sense as tools to help in making sound decisions.
