ALT-4 Website Reviews Monstercom

From 3arf

Although I have received a callback on a position that I recently applied for through Monster.com, I have to say that I was not so much impressed by the website itself. Upon searching for job listings within five miles of my zip code, I was presented with a list of more than five hundred jobs. This list could have been narrowed a bit if I had entered in a keyword, but I like to keep my options open and see if there is anything that I might be interested in pursuing.

At first glance, I didn't even see my city among the first page of jobs. The closest job that I saw was approximately twenty miles from my home. I could however sort by a different category such as date, relevance, job title, company, and distance. After trying the distance link I realized this was the page that I needed. There were eight job listings in my town. Only two of these listings had been posted within the last month, the others date back as far as three months ago. Surely they had already filled these positions, I would have hoped so.

My findings included:

1)Of the two positions I had to choose from, posted within the last month, I actually was qualified for one of the positions, which was a nursing position. The other was an accountant position.2)Of the eight job postings in my area, six of these were through a staffing agency, the others were directly through the company.3)Of the eight job postings available, six required an education of Bachelor Degree, one required high school or GED, and the last one required an Associates Degree which would be the one that I qualified for.

As I scrolled through the jobs available, I found that I generally was not qualified for very many at all. Most of the listings were with very large companies, which was not what helped me when I was looking for a local job at a small company.

To apply for a job, I found that I had to become a member, which was no cost. I had already got a membership long ago but it had been a while since I had applied for a job so I couldn't seem to remember my password. I had to enter my email address in to have my password sent to my email address, go check my email, and then finally I could apply for the job.

Monster.com offers many other resources on the website, but honestly I was turned off by even checking it out due to the findings of just searching and trying to apply for a job. My actual point of irritancy was that I only wanted listings within five miles of my house yet I got jobs from all over the state. If I do get this job that I have an interview for, I will be forever grateful to Monster.com, but in my opinion there are far better websites out there that will give me only the information that I search for and that I don't have to enter all of my personal information to join just so that I can apply for a job. Overall, I was not very impressed with Monster.com.
