ALT-3 What Employers are looking for in Teen Workers
What are employers looking for in teen workers? There are a lot of young teens who are willing and anxious, and ready to work by getting a job. They are nicknamed the "job ready youth". How many teens have what it takes to do get a job? Teens need advice and hopefully have been brought up with some knowledge of responsibility in the work force.
Dependability is something all employers are looking for in teens. Employers will pre-screen these teens and check on their grades and get some information as to their work ethics. Attendance is a big issue with all employers. It is one of the main reasons people get fired from their jobs. Teens need to realize, for your employer to benefit from you as a worker, you have to go to work and need to be there on time. Show them you are dedicated to being dependable.
Being responsible is something employers value in the teens they hire. If they see you taking it upon yourself to be responsible, they will admire you even more. You are getting to the part in life where you have to take responsibility for yourself. Mommy and Daddy are not there to pick up the pieces for you. It's time you learn how to get along with the world on your own.
Be willing to be flexible. Show your new employers you are willing to do things that not everyone likes to do. Everyone starts somewhere and doing the not so hot jobs is a place to start. There will always be a task you may not like at a job, but you have to think, is it worth losing a job over or should I just do it.
Be honest. Do not give other teens, a bad reputation by not telling the truth. Honesty is the best policy. It is also a great quality that employers look for and feel good about knowing that you can handle things like money should the occasion arise in your particular job.
Be respectful! There is no better place to learn how to get along with others than working in a job that meets with people from every walk of life. If you do not show respect you will not get it in return. This is a reason people get fired too. They are not respectful of others.
Always have a positive attitude. It will show and employers appreciate that and are willing to teach you just about anything. Positive attitudes in teens is a wonderful thing, and that attitude grows on the people you work with. Leave your problems at home. Keeping a great attitude will help you to enjoy your work more.
Know that employers, who are willing to hire teens, are giving them a chance to start working in the big world. There are a lot of people out of work these days and it is not as easy to find a job. Value your job as a teen. Be productive and be willing to work hard. Show your employer you, as a teen have what it takes to do a great job!
