ALT-3 Ways to Observe Resurrection Sunday
The most celebrated day on the Christian calendar is Resurrection Sunday, which commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The days of weeping are passed, the stone is rolled away, and now is the day of rejoicing and celebration. Christians celebrate this day around the world in various ways. Here are a few of the ways to observe Resurrection Sunday
- Attend A Sunrise Service
Many churches hold an Easter Sunrise service, where worshipers greet the day with songs and thanksgiving for the salvation Jesus Christ made possible by His Crucifixion. This may follow a presentation of The Passion of Christ on Saturday, which brings more clearly into view what a price He paid for us.
You may be able to find a Sunrise Service held on a mountaintop or outside in a park. This is a moving experience as joyful voices lift to the heavens the old lyrics, "He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today" and other favorite hymns that everyone should experience at least once.
- Easter Dinner
After church, enjoy an Easter dinner with your family. Try something new along with the dishes you usually prepare for Easter like roasted lamb or a nice brisket. There'll be plenty of eggs for potato salad and creamy deviled eggs and don't forget the multitude of fresh spring greens available this time of year.
For dessert, serve an ice cream cake shaped and decorated like an Easter egg or use a yummy, moist Pina-Colada sheet cake decorated with green tinted coconut, jellybeans and marshmallow peeps. You could also cut a sheet cake and form a cross which can be decorated with live blooms of a lily or keep it light with a bright yellow lemon meringue pie.
- Visit A Nursing Home
Share your joy and brighten the lives of shut-ins in a hospital or nursing home. Sing hymns and songs and share the Easter story with them. Take them little treats and maybe an Easter basket filled with nutritious snacks, beauty aids, sugar-free chocolate, a large print Bible or a magazine subscription. Make a pretty Easter bonnet for the ladies and give flowers to both men and women.
- Easter Egg Hunt
Gather all the children into a secluded spot while the adults hide the Easter eggs then, turn them loose with their Easter baskets and watch the fun. Be sure to have several prize eggs and hide one large plastic egg that is empty. When the eggs are counted, ask the children if they know what the empty egg symbolizes. Then, tell them it represents the empty tomb after Christ Jesus had risen.
- Family Reunion
Easter weekend is usually a long weekend for most employees, so it's the perfect time to get the family together for a family Reunion! Make your plans several months in advance and send out notices to all family members.
For family that lives out of town, make arrangements for them to stay with those who live in town. If your family is very large, reserve or rent a park pavilion or other space to hold the reunion.
Resurrection Sunday is a time for rejoicing and being glad. Share it with family and friends and make it a happy occasion, whether you try one of these ideas for ways to observe Resurrection Sunday or start your own tradition.
