ALT-2 Will Medical Transcription get you Rich Quick
NOTHING legitimate gets you rich quick. I've never heard of transcription work being put into the same sleezy categories of the get rich schemes. Why? People take courses to learn this stuff, then as one of the other writers here has said, they work their tails off. They make money (but not getting rich quick) because they work some intense hours. They don't move out of the seat.
Many people choose work at home jobs for family reasons. I did that for most of my career, and the trade-off of income (because I didn't work around the clock after a while) was worth it to me.
As another writer here pointed out, you will lose clients if you don't do the job you sign up for. That means a quick turn around time. So, even though you are working at home, unless you are glued to that chair, you won't make the big bucks. You have to think why you are doing it. Now, if you are working home for transprotation reasons, medical reasons, etc. that's different. If you're doing it to be mommy or daddy when the kids come home, you are juggling just like the rest of the people who work. You'll feel the same guilt.
I've heard from transcriptionists that the money is, indeed, good. But, these are professionals, and they're acting professionally-running a business. If you go in with the mentality of it being a business, then you'll do well. You'll do well if you determine early on that you only want to work "x" hours a week to leave time for your family, and keep your clients to a minimum. You will still be building a good reputation that you can trade on if you get to the position that you have more time on your hands.
