ALT-2 What to look for in a Leather Motorcycle Jacket
If you ride a motorcycle or scooter you will fall off.
It may be your own fault or caused by another road user. Overconfidence or stupidity on your own part. Carelessness or aggression on the part of another person.
Whatever the cause one thing is certain. You will suffer pain to some degree. You will also receive one or more injury. The degree of the injury can depend on pant factors - speed, nature of accident, what you come in contact with and the protective clothing you were wearing.
Before the accident you may have looked cool riding along in your T - shirt and jeans with your hair in the breeze. Afterwords you will look rather sad and ridiculous lying on the road in a crumpled heap with your life blood flowing from your body.
The fact that wearing a helmet can mean the difference between life or death (or being in a vegetative state) is so obvious I will not go into that. I am unable to write about something I do not understand.
The benefits of a leather jacked cannot be over emphasized in a situation like this. The road is much, much harder and more abrasive than your body. Your skin is much more damageable than the treated hide of a cow.
There are excellent leather motorcycle jackets on the market for as little as $100. From time to time retailers sell them for even less during clearances. Cheap does not necessarily mean bad.
Bad in a motorcycle leather jacket is one made from sheep nap-pa. These will tear on contact with the road. It is difficult to determine the donor animal since a label saying "genuine leather" may mean genuine rabbit hide.
Read all the information with the garment to determine that a cow once lived inside your intended purchase.
Once that is determined you can look at the other features. Do not waste your time if the jacked is too expensive. Look only at ones you can afford.
It must feel comfortable. This is one area where a cheaper jacket will fall behind its more costly counterpart. Usually, a stiff jacket becomes more comfortable after wearing for some time.
Henry Ford offered the ubiquitous Model T in any color so long as it was black. It used to be the same with leather jackets. Many folks still prefer black. It is a matter of personal choice. The main downside to black it does not stand out as much as brighter colors.
Do you fancy a jacket with a lapel or not? It can be difficult to close a rain-suit with the lapel type collar. Much easier with the collar that fits tightly around your neck. Make sure id has a comfortable mandarin lining at that area.
