ALT-2 Unemployment
You are not alone. It may seem like it, but at any time thousands of other people are unemployed too.
Every day people find jobs though, change their status from unemployed to employed, and so will you. Getting another job may take time and will take effort, but you can do it.
Start by having a look at your resume. Does it speak for you or could it use a little polishing? A resume is supposed to tell a potential employer about your goals, your education and your experience. Does your resume do that?
Once you have your resume ready, write a dynamite cover letter, highlighting your skills and experience. This letter does not have to be long, but it has to be to the point.
Armed with those two tools it is time to hit the employment websites. In addition towww.workopolis.comandwww.monster.comthere iswww.charityvillage.comand for the Canadians among uswww.eluta.ca. These are just four of many though. Google employment websites and you will be amazed at the number of them.
It is important to visit these websites every day. New jobs are being posted constantly and you want to send your resume early.
Contact employment agencies. As many as possible and make yourself available for temporary work. You might have to wait a while for that new full-time job to come along, but temporary assignments are a lot easier to get. And who knows, maybe while you are on a temporary assignment the company might just offer you a job.
In addition, you can visit company websites. Most websites have a 'Career' section where available jobs are posted. Apply for those jobs and if nothing is available at the time hit the 'Contact Us' button and let them know of your availability and attach your resume. Something might come of it, you never know.
Take a course. While you were working you might have been short on time to go back to school, so now that your days are free, now could be the time to expand your horizon. This new found knowledge may just be beneficial to your job search.
Let friends and family know that you are looking for a job. Someone just may hear of an opportunity.
On days that you are feeling low, contact a friend. Chances are you know someone who is also a little down on his luck. Two know more than one, so network together.
The trick is to stay positive. You know you will not be unemployed forever. Better days will come.
