ALT-1 Why you want a Good Relationship with your Boss
Everyone will have a boss at one point or another in their lifetime and it's important to make agood impressionon that boss. Having a good relationship with your boss will go far in establishing your career.
Your success as an employee will rely on your ability to have a good relationship with your boss. Not every boss is easy to get along with so it's important to work toward this goal even when it's difficult.
Observe
Observe your boss and how he or she handles each and every situation during your first few weeks as a new employee. Learning your bosses management style and how the company runs will be imperative to your success as a new employee.
Get along
It's not always easy to get along with everyone, but it's oh so important to get along with ones boss. Even the toughest boss can be a softy if someone takes a few minutes to find something nice about them and focus on that as a positive and let go of the negative.
Questions
Pay attention to those around you and ask intelligent questions. Not only will the boss be under observation, the new employee is also under observation. Learn everything about the company and how it runs in order to be a good team player. New employee's are expected to ask questions and get to know how things work at a new company.
Communicate
Communicate when something isn't understood or clear. As a new employee it's important to understand that not all supervisor's work the same way. While some are right there working with employee's, others may be off in another department working on something entirely different. Find out if your supervisor requires daily updates or is more sporadic and only requires weekly or monthly updates.
High Quality
Do the highest quality work possible in order to have a good relationship with your boss. A boss will notice which employee's do the best work and the rewards will be pay increases or incentives and sometimes more hours or a special project.
Team Player
Whether your company uses team work or individual work learning to be a team player is an important part of establishing a good relationship with any boss. If others see your desire to work together and not take all the credit they'll be more willing to help when needed.
Goal oriented
Set and maintain goals and work towards self initiative when projects need to be completed. It's okay to go the extra mile and it will go far in having a good relationship with your boss.
Remember, your boss likely signs your pay check. Your boss is counting on you to make him or her look good, after all, they hired a new employee and no one would ever want to make them regret that decision.
