ALT-1 What Men really want for Christmas

From 3arf

“Er.. great, another tie,” says your man as he opens up his Christmas present with a smile as real as a $10 Rolex watch. You may understand what men do not want for Christmas – ties and fuzzy sweaters with Rudolph on them (the one with the nose that really lights up) – yet what do men really want? Of course it will depend on the particular man, but his wish list may include the following items.

Tools

Ever since he took his family's television apart at five and then tried to put it back together, your man might love tools. They are like men’s toys, and you will have many different choices. You could get him a power tool or a set of various tools. Consider if he has stated his desire for any particular tool. Some men are very particular about the exact tool that they get, so you may want to tell him that you want to get him this gift and let him pick out exactly what he wants. You can search at home improvement stores such as Lowe’s and Home Depot, at department stores like Sears, at general stores and online.

Television

Many men absolutely love electronics. There are many different gifts that you can get for your man that fall into this category. He may love a new television. With a big budget you can get him one of the new 3D televisions with which to impress his friends. You can get him a fancy HD television. You can also get him peripheral equipment such as a DVD player.

If you cannot afford a television, perhaps you can get him something to watch on the one he already has. Many guys love to watch, and they sell DVDs of many movies and television series.

Stereo

When you ask many men how loud they want their music, they will say to turn it up all the way. Your guy may like a new stereo system. It may be for his car or for his house. There are many different pieces of stereo equipment, and the prices on these range greatly. You can get him an all-inclusive system with speakers or get him various components such as a receiver, speakers, etc.

He also may like a personal music device to which he can listen. You can include music in the form of CDs or MP3 files.

Car related gift

Many men love cars. There are various gifts related to things that go fast. With a big budget you can of course get a car. If you ask many men what they really want, this is likely to be number one on the list. You can also get him something special for his car such as detailing, new rims, a GPS system, etc.

Sports related gift

Many wives feel like widows when the football season starts. A lot of men might like a gift that is related to football or another sport. There are football games that still occur after Christmas thus you can get an experience to one of these games. You can purchase tickets to the game and pay for parking, food, souvenirs, etc. You can take him or send him out with his friends.

If you cannot afford to send him out to a game or if there is not one nearby, you can still get him something that is related to his passion. You can get him apparel for his favorite team. You can get him a piece of sports memorabilia such as an autographed baseball.

Your man might like to get active himself. He may enjoy lessons in some sport. There are different camps that adult males can attend that can provide the experience of a lifetime. If he enjoys golf, then you can get him a membership. Many men would also enjoy exercise equipment such as a treadmill or a weight machine.

Food gift basket

They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, and this may be the key to the perfect Christmas gift. You can get a gift basket and fill it with his favorite foods, treats he would not normally have. You can make fudge or fresh baked cookies. You can go to the store and pick out all different types of delicious edible treats.

Vacation

Many men want nothing more than to get away from the drudgery of everyday life. You can plan a trip. He may also like if you treated him to a weekend out with his friends to escape the rigors of everyday life. The scope of such a vacation will be dictated by your budget and responsibilities.

Non-tangible gifts

Although the first thought of what to get for your man for Christmas will be about what will fit in a gift box, there are many other gifts that he might love the most of all. If you have been fighting or having harsh words, then maybe now is the time to try to turn things around. He may want to spend more time with you or have a cleaner house. He may simply want more understanding. Think about his true needs and what might be the best Christmas gift of all.

There are many gifts, both tangible and intangible, that men truly want. Consider all of your options before picking out that perfect gift.

And… skip the ties.
