ALT-1 Top Features every Minivan should have
Although the minivan is following the way of the dodo bird and going extinct, the mommy-mobile does have a lot to offer families. The biggest benefits of owning a minivan is its space and hauling capabilities. These vehicles have giving up this stronghold with many more spacious SUVs flooding the market. But if you want to know what the main features every minivan should have in this techno age, look no further than the 2008 Chrysler Town and Country.
While other car companies have gotten out of the minivan market altogether, Chrysler has stuck with it since it rose to prominence 24 years ago. Chrysler has consistently added new features to the Town and Country to stay current and this year is no different. Their newest innovation upgrades Chrysler's "functional family seating". This is called the Swivel 'n Go seating system. Swivel 'n Go offers second row seats that swivel 180 degrees to face the third row with a removable table that installs between the two rows. It also has covered storage bins in the floor of the second row, third-row uncovered storage and fold-in-the-floor third-row seating.
Swivel 'n Go also offers a built-in child booster seat in the second-row chair and a one-touch power-folding third-row bench seat. With Swivel 'n Go, second- and third-row passengers can face each other to have a conversation, play games or have a meal on the go. Besides the Swivel 'n Go system, there are two other distinct seating configurations available for the 2008 Town and Country. They include a second-row bench seat and a third-row fold-in-the-floor seat. With the fold-in-the-floor second and third row seats, the Town & Country can go from a seven-passenger minivan to a two-person cargo van that can carry 4' x 8' sheets of plywood in less than 30 seconds. Also, to ensure your family is safe in this portly people mover, there's the ParkView rear back-up camera, a rear view interior conversation mirror, which is the same kind of convex mirror seen in the corner of most convenience stores, and ParkSense, a rear back-up detection system. The 2008 Town & Country designers thought of everything a family needs on the road. With a front-row sliding console that is large enough to store a purse, dual glove boxes, second-row covered storage bins, third-row storage area and even countless other storage bins and pockets there are more places to store things than ever before.
Chrysler didn't forget about entertainment when designing the new Town and Country either because they know how important it is to keep the kids from fighting each other on a long road trip. So now, with a dual DVD player that can play two different movies at the same time, you won't even have to worry about the kids fighting for the remote.
But the brains of the Town and Country's entertainment system is MyGIG, which has a 20 gigabyte hard drive. It can play CDs, DVDs, and MP3s. It also controls satellite radio with voice-activated capability, has a touch screen and real-time traffic and navigation. MyGIG even hooks up to UConnect, a hands-free communication system with Bluetooth technology.
And if you need entertainment from outside sources there are two second-row output/input jacks with a 12-volt power outlet and an overhead console with bins large enough to store headphones. Just so you know, minivans didn't leave the auto market, they just went hi-tech. Without all of the new gadgets and doo-hickeys minivans would never leave showrooms again, so give it up to the people at Chrysler if you love these family haulers.
