Consumer Reports Names new Top Sedan

Being honored as the top new sedan by Consumer Reports is a huge honor and one that can result in significant press coverage as well as additional sales. As one of the most trusted sources for new car information, when Consumer Reports names a car to be the best of the year people not only listen but they go out and buy as well. With the market flooded with the ever popular sedan, Consumer Reports has named theChevrolet Impalato be the best of all sedans coming onto the market for the 2014 sales year. This is significant for Chevrolet not only because of the achievement itself, and design of the car, but also because it is the first time in twenty years that an American made sedan has topped the list of best new sedans.

The new Chevrolet Impala has been completely reworked and redesigned, and this has brought about a comeback for the car that even fans of previous models didn’t want just a couple of years ago. The Impala had been relegated to use as a rental car or fleet vehicle and consumers simply weren’t interested in the design and functionality of the automobile. The completely overhauled new Impala has not only caught the eye of consumers once again, it has been rated top overall sedan by Consumer Reports.

Thenew Impalahas received the coveted top sedan spot for a number of reasons including its design, ride and performance. General Motors based the newly redesigned car on the Cadillac XTS platform and made significant improvements in the car´s handling and ride performance, an issue that was criticized by Consumer Reports in recent years. While it was once considered to have a “nervous” ride and was unimpressive, it has now been said that only European Sports models, like the BMW, have a better ride, and the new Impala isn't even considered to be a sports model.

Another feature of the new Impala that is sure to catch the eye of consumers is the redesigned interior. One major complaint, not only with the old model but in regard to many new sedans to come out in recent years, is the complexity of the interior controls. The new design contains an interior that is sleek and based in simplicity, a feature that is sure to please drivers who are tired of dealing with complex controls while driving.

Overall theImpalareceived a score of 95 out of 100 and that puts it ahead of the Hyundai Genesis which received a score of 92, as well as the Toyota Avalon which received a score of 85. Other features that will impress consumers are the exterior design, paint, and, perhaps most importantly, the price. While it is not only the top rated sedan of 2014, it is also one of the cheapest models overall with a base price of $27,000. General Motors is expecting a big year in 2014 and the Impala is only one of 20 newly redesigned cars that the company will put on the market. For a company that nearly went under just a few years ago this is a huge turnaround.
