One of the most important things you can do at work is to maintain decent working relationships. Networking is a critical part of advancing at work, so you are going to want to have as many quality relationships as possible. There are many reasons why your network is going to be an important part of your job success. In how many ways can your relationships benefit you?

The first reason that it is so important to keep up your relationships in the workplace is that your relationships at work are going to determine how well you do at work. Your relationships at work will decide if you get promoted and how much success you have in your current job. Why is this? Well, would you want to see some outcast get promoted over you? Would you want to work for someone who had no one who trusted or respected that person?

Maintaining good relationships in the workplace is critical because your relationships also have a lot to do with your production. If you don't get along well with others, it can be harder to get work done. Political bickering could stop someone from handing you an important document on time, or could cause a team to force you to shoulder the burden in hopes you will fail and get fired.

Good relationships also foster good communication. If you are good terms with people it is rarely ever a problem to get in touch with others. You will be on top of the reply list, or the first to be notified if things change in any way. When people like and respect you they will make sure you are in the loop. This will make it easier to get things done at work and will keep business running smoothly throughout the day.

When you can maintain relationships it says a lot about you at work. It isn't always sunshine and roses at work. Sometimes you have to be willing to compromise with others in order to even get a little bit of what you want. There will be opposing viewpoints from time to time. It is important to make sure that you can respect others when you have a colleague that doesn't agree with you. Other viewpoints are just as valid as yours.

Maintaining relationships with others is an important aspect to getting ahead in business. Those who are willing to make the sacrifices to keep relations good with others at work will reap the benefits. It is so much easier to get work done when everyone is on the same page and working well together.
