ALT-1 Honda vs Toyota

From 3arf

The Honda versus Toyota war is a never-ending debate because both vehicle makes are quite popular amongst individuals. Selection of a particular make usually boils down to personal preference.

When a person selects a particular "Make" of vehicle, it is usually based on that particular vehicle "Make" reputation or in some instances the model under a particular make. However vehicle "Make" reputation is usually based on Exterior looks, Performance, Reliability and Economics (generally speaking).

Both Honda and Toyota have models of automobiles which are reliable etc. However to be more specific I would consider Honda as having Exterior looks and Performance generally. I would consider Toyota as having Exterior looks, Performance (model specific), Reliability and Economics (main factor). Honda vehicles usually appeal to the younger crowd since they can be easily customized. Also, after-market parts are readily available for Honda vehicles. Honda is known for producing sporty vehicles such as the Honda Integra Type R or the Honda S2000 hence the reason it appeals to the younger crowd. These vehicles have a tendency to put out a lot more horsepower compared to similar classed Toyota vehicles. For example, the 2002 Honda Integra Type R puts out 220HP (stock) whereas the 2002 Toyota Celica GTS puts out 190 HP.

Toyota vehicles usually appeal to the older crowd who are looking for reliability. However there are some younger folks (like myself) who are attracted to Toyota vehicles. Toyota vehicles are known for their reliability and economy (low maintenance cost). A classic example would be all years of the Toyota Corolla. The Corolla is very reliable with very low maintenance costs and fuel economy. Toyota also made turbocharged sport models in previous years such as the Toyota Supra which is a serious Nissan Skyline competitor for the sport car enthusiasts. In addition Toyota also made the Celica.

Both Honda and Toyota have their own valve timing technology which is implemented in selected engines. For example Toyota implements VVTi (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence) or VVTLi (Variable Valve Timing Lift intelligence) in their engines. Honda however implements VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) or i-VTEC (intelligent Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) in their engines. Both technologies are unique in their own way but also similar in a sense.

Therefore as mentioned before, the choice of vehicle make is dependent on the individual and their preferences when selecting a vehicle. Personally I like reliability with a little performance so I'd go with a Toyota however that doesn't mean that I won't ever buy a Honda!
