ALT-1 Dos and Donts of Winter Weddings
Every year, more and more couples are choosing to tie the knot outside of the traditional wedding months. Winter weddings have increased dramatically in number in recent years, coinciding with the weak economy. While winter weddings are perhaps a better bargain, there are plenty of things to keep in mind when it comes to planning. Here are some do's and dont's to remember.
1. DO keep in mind that, depending on the location, winter travel isn't possible for some of your guests. Since many people do not like to drive in inclement weather, the possibility of snow or sleet may keep many of your guests at home.
2. DO plan thoroughly. Most of the time, a winter wedding will cost less than one held during the peak wedding months of May and June. However, if you are looking into a highly popular location, you may not snag as much of a bargain as you expected.
3. DO consider an evening wedding. Since the weather will most likely be cold whether your event is held in the daytime or the evening, an evening winter wedding won't be any more uncomfortable than an afternoon wedding. It may also be more convenient for out-of-town guests or those who may have to drive long distances.
4. DO make your arrangements early. Winter weddings are quickly gaining in popularity, so early planning is essential for securing your ideal time and location.
5. DON'T be afraid to stray away from the traditional. Since winter weddings are non-traditional anyway, you have some free reign when it comes to choosing your dress, hair, makeup, and even music selection for the ceremony.
6. DON'T expect a huge turnout. If your wedding coincides with holiday travel, the high cost of airline tickets will prevent some out-of-area guests from attending.
7. DON'T assume that a winter wedding will be easier to plan. Chances are, all of the caterers and DJs and musicians who were clamoring for your business in the spring and summer might not be as easy to locate in the winter. For most of these people, wedding gigs are part-time work, so they might have full-time jobs in the winter.
There are many excellent reasons to choose a winter wedding, but as you can see, the off-season comes with many special considerations. Make sure you take all of the above-mentioned things into consideration before committing to a witner wedding.
