It seems that, due to a depressed World economy and "Global Warming" more vehicle makers are producing more "Green Friendly" vehicles. As such, so called, hybrid vehicles, solar powered vehicles, fuel cell powered vehicles and just rechargeable battery powered vehicles are just now finding their way into the marketplace.
Are you a "Green Friendly" person who desires to reduce your transportation costs in the long term? Right now it has not been proved that you will be able to realize a substantial saving of such transportation costs because not enough time has passed for making a realistic calculation of such expected cost reductions.
Believe it or not, the price of crude oil could drop below $50.00 dollars per barrel, if demand for such a fossil fuel decreases. The end of the war against Arab Terrorists might end within the next year. That is, if bin Laden is brought to justice.
Like it or not, there are few places where the owner of a "Green Friendly" vehicle can have that vehicle properly serviced, so that it continues to take that owner to where he or she wants to go. Worse yet, solar cells do not generate enough electricity to keep you going after the Sun sets. Besides, where can you go to simply recharge the batteries in your just battery powered vehicle?
As of today, nowhere. You recharge the batteries from your home and your range is limited by the charge within the batteries. Will a battery powered car take you to work and home again?
If so, you have the advantage of not having to stop and purchase fuel for your mode of transportation. It is to your advantage that you can simply go directly to your destination without having to pay good money for a fossil fuel, the pollution from burning such a fuel that is slowly but surely destroying the environment in which we all live.
Then again, the batteries created to power your car cost as much as $8,000.00 each. To make matters worse, those batteries are expected to last only about five years and then you must buy a new rechargeable battery or batteries for your electric powered mode of transportation. The cost of the battery might be more than the fuel you will purchase and use to drive a fossil fuel powered vehicle during that period of time.
The management of "Public Utilities" and those huge "Multinational Oil Companies" are the most flagrant contributors to "Global Warming." Then again, sooner or later the supply of crude oil will come to an end. In that regard, a pollution spewing power generation plant is supplying the energy required to recharge your car battery so how “Green Friendly” is such an electric car in the long run?
From my point of view, Mankind should put an end to fossil fuel powered and pollution spewing generation plants. In regard to our environment, water pollution and soil pollution is no less a hazard to all living things.
