Many things can come between you and making a career change. Some are obvious such as a sluggish economy or educational requirements. It may be something you are doing yourself psychologically that is preventing success. Are you sabotaging yourself and don’t even know it?

Are you procrastinating?

You have had long-term dreams of entering a different career. You vicariously watch others in your new chosen field enjoying their success. However, you procrastinate justifying this behavior by saying, “Someday I’ll”. Procrastination is generally a disguise for some sort of fear. Find comfort in knowledge while moving confidently forward.

Making a career change requires a lot of planning, research and effort to become familiar with the new adventure. Did you ever hear someone say, “I am just too busy earning a living to make any money?”  What did they mean?  It seems that they had set their priorities in the wrong order. You may find this yourself with the everyday demands on your time and energies. Making a career change has to be a priority in making a successful transition from where you are to where you want to be. It requires the discipline to stay concentrated on your goals in front of you and not let anything deter you.

With family, a job and other responsibilities it is easy to not give your plans the attention they need to come to fruition. Set time aside each week, or each day, to look at your goals and see what progress you are making. These plans should be kept high on your priority list or get lost in the chaos of everyday living.
