Some people seem to know what they want to do very early on in life. These lucky people may not have known their passion would turn into a career but the seed had already been planted. Some people have no idea what they want to do at any given moment, let alone in their future.
There are part-time jobs that young people tend to get because it puts extra money in their pockets. Some of those first jobs can actually turn into much more than just a summer/weekend boredom killer. Those jobs can lead to afulfillingcareer later down the road.
Babysitting
Many teens end up babysitting at one point or another. It is the first job for many teens and even some pre-teens. If you ask several adults what their first job was, many will say it was babysitting. Some "sit" for neighbors, some for family friends and some for family. There are those who are responsible enough and earned a good reputation as a babysitter, that actually have to create schedules because they have so many families that want to hire them.
Some teens, especially as they get older, figure out that they really enjoy taking care of and being around smaller children. This can turn into a career in child care or even becoming a teacher. Some people find spending time with children a joyful and enriching experience and they pursue it as a full time profession. Some even become nannies and live with the families of the children they take care of.
Yard care
Mowing grass/weeds, raking leaves, shoveling snow off sidewalks and performing basic yard care is a great way for a young person to begin making their own money. The best part is it is a year round job! This is a great way for young people to meet their neighbors and even help them out with yard work that they cannot do anymore.
Some young people figure out that they get a certain satisfaction from making a yard look really nice. This can spark a passion for lawn/yard care and even turn into a full-blown landscaping career. Some professional landscapers have been called artists of the land and for good reason: they take pride and are passionate about their job.
Pet care
Some young people get part-time jobs walking dogs, or pet sitting for neighbors/family members when they are out of town. Learning how to care for and play with animals is a fun way to make extra money. Some young people figure out early on that they are very good with animals and really enjoy spending time with them.
This natural talent and passion for animals can turn into a career as a veterinarian, animal trainer, pet groomer and a host of other animal related careers. Animal lovers are very passionate about what they do and it shows with how animals react and interact with them.
Fast food/restaurant
When people think of a first job for a teenager, fast food is one of the ones that usually comes to mind. It is true that many teens get a job in a local fast food place or restaurant. Teens can wait tables, clear and set up tables and even seat customers. These seemingly mundane tasks actually teach young people how to deal with the public and can also spark an interest in the food service industry.
Working in fast food can lead to interest in learning how to cook and later becoming a chef. It can also lead to a career in management in the same restaurant and that is not too shabby either. Some people decide to make a career of being a wait person because they enjoy interacting with the public.
These are just examples of some of the fantastic careers a young person could pursue that stem from their first job. Opportunity can present itself in the the most mundane job and at the most ordinary moment. One minute a teen is raking leaves and the next he/she owns a landscaping company.
