Gift giving became a whole lot easier with the introduction of gift cards, and nowadays most companies, big and small, provide its customer with this time saving option.  Yet there are those of us that feel a gift card might seem thoughtless, and worry, “I didn’t have enough time or care enough about your special day to take the time to buy you a real present”, might be the perception the recipient might have.  One way to solve this problem, and save time is to get creative wrapping the gift card, because when it comes to gift card giving, it’s all in the presentation.

Here are some creative ways to wrap and present your gift with a unique and sometimes silly touch. We’ll cover ideas that are basic and simple, as well as, a few wild and crazy ideas that are guaranteed to leave a lasting impression long after you’ve gone home.

Some basic ways to wrap your gift card, especially when it’s for someone that is just an acquaintance or a co-worker that you might not know so well, but still want to add some thought  to your gift are,  attach your gift card  to a nice stuffed animal. Punch a hole in the corner of the envelope the gift card came in, loop a ribbon through the hole, and tie it to the animals hand or neck.

A very simple way to wrap your gift card is to buy a box of chocolates and place the card inside, as an extra surprise.  If it is the holidays you can decorate the envelope entire envelope with glitter, poke a hole in the envelope of the card and tie a bow in it (making a loop), and once the glitters dry, put the name of its owner on the glittered envelope.  This will allow you to hang your gift card on the Christmas tree, as a personalized ornament.

If those ideas are still too personal, or maybe you don’t have the time, you can always opt for going to the store and choosing from the varieties of different pop out cards that hold your card inside it, or the fancy specialized gift card boxes and tins, available to you.  Almost every store that sells greeting cards has a section, or at least, a display targeted at the gift card giving market.

For those who love a surprise, you might try using the element of surprise when wrapping your gift card.  Who doesn’t like a “bonus” gift surprising them, after they think all the presents are gone? Plus, it’ll show you went the extra mile when planning the gift.  Keep in mind, when wrapping your card a general idea would to be to go with the theme of the gift card you’ve purchased. Especially, when trying to leave a lasting impression. Here are a few simple, but thoughtful ideas that keep with the gift cards theme.

Purchase a gift card to a local coffee house, now buy a special blend of coffee, and stick your gift card inside among the beans. Pick up a gift card to a camera store and place it in a nice frame, as the picture.  Find out if your local casino sells gift cards, if they do, buy a set of cards from the casino and place your gift card inside the deck as an added “bonus.”

Everyone loves balloons, but most people won’t even notice a gift card placed inside one. You can take a balloon (preferably one that’s see through), cut the opening side enough to put your gift card inside, and now blow up the balloon  leaving the gift card to float around inside. If you want them to notice your gift try adding glitter or confetti to the inside of the balloon as well, this will help attract attention to your gift.

Many times, catalogs provide the option of purchasing a gift card as well.  Get online and find out which ones do, request a catalog, and tape the gift card (sometimes it may just be a gift card code) to the order page of the catalog, and wrap the catalog up as the gift. They might think getting a catalog as a gift is crazy, but will love the idea that with the gift card inside, now comes the option to order from that exact “crazy gift”.

Now some of you might think the last idea wasn’t crazy at all.  For those of you who love leaving people lost in thought, or maybe, are known to pull a practical joke or two, these next ideas will probably tickle your funny bone.

Plastic puzzle cubes that hold money in the center as “the prize” are available at most toy stores.  Instead of money, place your gift card in the center as the prize they win when they figure out the puzzle.  This idea is great if you really want to make the person work for their present.  Plus, most of these cubes are intellectually stimulating which increases brain function, for those of you with a guilty conscience.

Another unusual way to wrap your gift card would be to place it inside a jar of your favorite jelly or jam.  Make sure to wrap the card in plastic before placing it inside the jar.  This idea might get a little stick for both parties involved.  Finally, go to your local dollar store and purchase the tackiest item there.  Tape the gift card to the bottom of this item, so hopefully when they go to toss this hideous item, once you’re gone, they realize it was just a gag gift, and you really haven’t lost your mind.  Whatever method you choose to use to wrap your gift card, just remember, when it comes to giving a gift card as a present, it’s all in the presentation.
