2010 Rolls Royce Ghost Review
With a price of about 245,000 $, Rolls-Royce introduced its new car, the Ghost, as the brand's entry-level vehicle. While the bigger Phantom starts at 380,000$, the Ghost may bring new customers to Rolls-Royce showrooms.
As BMW owns Rolls-Royce, Some parts of the Ghost are borrowed from BMW 7 and 5 series. The ghost is based on the BMW 760Li. However, the Ghost is larger than the 760Li, with a wheelbase which is 85 mm longer and an overall length which is greater by 187 mm. Rolls-Royce says the Ghost only shares about 20 percent of its construction with the big BMW.
From the outside, the Ghost appears as a very big saloon. Compared to most cars on the street, the car looks bigger. But, when you park the Ghost beside the Phantom, the Ghost is only a 3/4 scale model. The exterior design is simply a Rolls-Royce design. With the nice and straight lines, the car shows its luxury, prestige and quality. To give the car more gorgeous look, there is an optional metallic hood treatment that echoes that of the Phantom. In this case, though, the hood is covered in a special paint rather than extremely high-maintenance stainless steel. Standard rims are 19", while the optional are 20".
From the inside, Exotic wood veneers, metallic accents and high-quality leather are used throughout the cabin. Plush carpeting is standard. However, you can get genuine lambswool mats as an option. You can notice the clean dash and console with a display screen which is hidden when not in use behind a wood panel. The rear seats are well-shaped and supportive with a large fold-down armrest.
The engine is somehow borrowed from the BMW 760Li with some improvements. The capacity of this twin-turbo V12 engine is up from 6.0 L to 6.6 L. Power is up from 400 Kw to 420 Kw. While torque is up from 750 Nm to 780 Nm. The result is that the 2,470-Kg ghost can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in under five seconds with a top speed of 155 mph which is electronically limited. With 13 mpg city and 20 mpg highway, fuel consumption is impressive.
Traction control, antilock brakes, active front head restraints, side airbags for front occupants and full-length side curtain airbags are all standard. The Driver's Assistance Systems package adds lane departure warning, automatic high beams, a head-up display and a night-vision camera.
Standard features include 19-inch alloy wheels, an active air suspension, a sunroof, front and rear parking sensors, keyless entry/ignition, auto-dimming mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, automatic xenon headlights, power-closing rear doors, leather seating and trim, a pair of umbrellas stored within the front doors, heated front and rear seats, 10-way power and massaging front seats, four-zone automatic climate control, Bluetooth, a navigation system, adaptive cruise control and a 16-speaker premium audio system with a 12.5GB hard drive music server, satellite radio, a CD/DVD player and USB/auxiliary audio inputs. However, you can order the features you like.
