2010 Ford Flex Review
(Starting at $28,550)(19 MPG Combined)While its design truly sets it apart from the pack, the Ford Flex has not been a big hit for Ford Motor Company. Instead of selling the anticipated 100,000 units a year the current Flex has been averaging about 30,000 sales. While Ford's quality and public perception ratings are at an all time high, for some reason the public consciousness has not accepted the boxy utilitarianism of the Ford Flex. For 2010 that might be all set to change.
With the introduction of the EcoBoost 300 horsepower turbocharged/direct-injected V6 engine option the Flex now has the performance to go with its unique appearance. The EcoBoost affords the Flex V8 levels of power with the economy of a frugal six cylinder. When you take into account the vast size of the seven seat flex the 19 miles per gallon combined economy becomes all the more impressive.
If you think just because you have three children that you need to drive a dorky minivan, think again. The Flex is just as spacious as any seven seat minivan and has the added bonus of being able to smoke seriously more expensive metal at the lights. 0-60 comes up in 6.5 seconds. Yes, you read that right. That's about as fast as the much lighter VW GTI. So take heart moms and dads - your family hot rod is here. And it's a Ford.
What Else is So Great?
The Ford Flex also has a wealth of optional features and creature comforts to make each member of the family happy. There is a spacious refrigerator that can be optioned between the two rear seats (it does make the vehicle a six seater, however) so you can always have cold Diet Cokes and sliced apples for the kiddies. Must-haves include a top notch rear seat entertainment system, multi-pane glass panoramic roof (to keep kids from getting bored and car sick), the Sync voice activation system and possibly the plushest leather seen in an American car since Ricardo Montalban invented "Corinthian Leather."
If you are bad with maps there is also a top notch navigation system, bluetooth, MP3 connectivity (which also allows you to control your iPod through Sync), and a number of interior and exterior color options. So have fun when you are speccing your new 2010 Ford Flex with EcoBoost. Your family will thank you for it.
