2009 Nissan Sentra Review
The 2009 Nissan Sentra is in its third year of a redesign. This version remained mostly unchanged this year. It continues to provide a good value for entry-level sedans. With the introduction of the Nissan Versa, the Sentra is no longer the most compact model in Nissan's line-up. The 2009 Nissan Sentra continues to offer the same, underpowered, 2.0 liter engine for all three of its trims. The CVT transmission provides smooth operation and notable fuel economy, with 24 city/30 highway. The 6-speed manual transmission comes standard on the 2.0 trim, with slightly less impressive fuel economy.
During the ride, the 2009 Sentra offers a smooth, confident ride with very little road noise. The engine revs loudly during acceleration. You can opt for the 6-speed manual transmission over the CVT for added fun. However, not much can overcome the fact that the 140-housepower/147-torque motor does not keep up with its competitors from Honda. If you require more assertion, the SE-R and SE-R spec V models provide just that. With a higher displacement 2.5 liter motor, bringing 177-horsepower on the SE-R and 200-horsepower for the SE-R spec V, these models are fully capable of keeping up with the best of them. The 2009 Nissan Sentra SE-R/SE-R spec V would be sportier if offered as a coupe However, as a performance sedan, you will find little disappointment. Especially with the SE-R model starting at $20k.
The 2009 Nissan Sentra offers an acceptable array of standard safety features. All models come with side and front airbags standard. You will have to spring for the 2.0 S trim to find cruise, ABS, and a security system standard. Unfortunately, stability control is not yet offered. Braking is acceptable, with larger brakes standard on the SE-R and SE-R spec V. The 2009 Nissan Sentra received a five-star front impact rating and a four-star side impact rating during federal tests.
Overall, the 2009 Nissan Sentra provides a secure, roomy ride for a good price. The interior brings efficiency and comfort. The control designs and placement are predictable, no need for a long search. The cabin presents an open feel and far less cramped than previous generations of the Sentra. Thus far, the Nissan Sentra remains reliable and cost-effective. With descent fuel economy, you will find a capable road companion for many years of enjoyment. Coming in 2010 will be improve fuel economy, added IPod connectivity for the 2.0S, and slightly updated styling.
