1995 Ford Taurus Review
I loved my 1995 Ford Taurus. It was a roomy car with some very nice features such as keyless entry on the driver door, and I found that the seats were extremely comfortable. I drove my Taurus more than 125,000 miles before I gave it to my brother who still drives it to and from work daily. It required very little care other than routine maintenance. At about 100,000 miles I had to have the transmission replaced and it also needed an air conditioning repair, but after 100,000 miles most cars will begin to need a little extra maintenance here and there.
Overall, I found it to be very reliable and I never had to worry about it having problems on long trips. The anti-lock brakes saved me from more than one accident and I found the car very easy to maneuver in tight places. I was disappointed when Ford pulled the Taurus from their line-up, but was thrilled to see that it was once again added this year.
The Taurus has always been an American favorite and it didn't make much sense to me that Ford would stop manufacturing it. I currently drive a Toyota Corolla, but I would certainly not be opposed to purchasing another Taurus.
Aside from the fact that my Taurus didn't require much in the way of maintenance, the items that did have to be repaired were less expensive to repair than those of many similar models. It was also convenient to have repaired and easy to get the parts since the car is so common.
It was a 4-door family car, but as a single person I still enjoyed driving it. The car was solidly built and I felt safe driving it. I'm a little concerned in my tiny Corolla that it might not take the impact during an accident as well as a larger car might, but I never was much concerned in the Taurus because it was large enough and stout enough that I felt it would handle impact well. It also had a much more powerful engine than my current car and I found it very easy to maneuver in heavy traffic.
If I had to decide between the Ford Taurus and a Toyota Corolla, I would still go with my Corolla since the gas mileage is much better in the Corolla than the Taurus. There toward the end when I gave my Taurus away, I was only getting about 15 mpg in town. My Corolla might be much smaller with much less power, but the mileage is about 28-30mpg in town. The savings really adds up.
The gas mileage issue would be my only complaint about the 1995 Ford Taurus. Overall, I found it to be an excellent, dependable car that was ideal for singles or small families. I would certainly recommend a Taurus to friends and family.
