ميم (وحدة)

الميم (meme بالإنجليزية وتلفظ [miːm] مثل العربية، واللفظ مذكر كما في الفرنسية) لفظ أحدثه عام 1976 البيولوجي ريتشارد داوكنز، يشير هذا المصطلح إلى "وحدة المعلومات الثقافية" التي يمكن نقلها من عقل لآخر بطريقة مشابهة لانتقال الجينات من فرد لآخر خلال عملية التكاثر حيث تعتبر الجينات وحدة المعلومات الوراثية، سرعان ما ظهر لاحقا علم خاص يدعى علم الميميات يعنى بدراسة هذه الفكرة وتطبيقاتها.

أعطى داوكنز أمثلة عن الميمات: "النغمات، العبارات الملتقطة في الشارع، المعتقدات، الموضة وأنماط اللباس، طرق البناء، وصناعة الأقواس في البناء ".

الميم كما يقول تنتشر وتمتد لوحدها كوحدة للتطور الثقافي والانتشار - بطريقة مماثلة بعدة طرق لسلوك الجينات. تنتشر الميمات كمجموعات أو زمر متكاملة تعمل معا يشار لها بمعقد الميميات ‏‏.

فكرة الميمات نفسها كانت برهانا على فكرة "الميم" بانتشارها السريع مما جعلها تحقق درجة من الاختراق في الأوساط الثقافية وفي الثقافة الشعبية قلما حققتها نظريات علمية حديثة.

بعض النظريات والأفكار تقترح أن الميمات تتطور من خلال اصطفاء طبيعي بطريقة مشابهة لأفكار تشارلز داروين فيما يخص التطور البيولوجي. باعتماد أفكار مثل التنوع، الطفرة، التنافس وأخيرا الوراثة ويمكن تفسير وتوقع نجاح تكرارية هذه الأفكار وانتشارها وتطورها. يمكن لفكرة أن تنقرض في حين أن أفكارا أخرى يمكن لها أن تنجو وتحيا وتنتشر وتطفر نحو الأفضل أو نحو الأسوء من خلال ما يطرأ عليها من تعديلات.
