ڤي‌بوليتين (بالإنجليزية: vBulletin) هو برنامج إدارة منتديات غير مجاني مبرمج بلغة الPHP على قواعد بيانات MySQL تبرمجه شركة جيلسوفت.

الماضي

في عام 1999 كان كلٌ من James Limm و John Percival يديرون موقع عن فيجوال بيسك وكان يُستخدم لتشغيله برنامج المنتديات UBB.classic، عندما بدأ الموقع بالنمو لاحظوا ان البرنامج المُستخدَم لا يمكنه تحمّل عدد الزوار. وفي فبراير 2000 قررا كتابة برنامجهما الخاص من اجل الموقع. في بادئ الامر، كان المُقرر هو اعادة كتابة UBB ولكن باستخدام PHP وMySQL وكان البرنامج المُقرر كتابته يخص منتداهم الذي يديرونه فقط، بعد أشهر قليله اعرب أحد مالكي UBB عن اعجابه بالبرنامج، لذا قام منشؤوا البرنامج بعرض بيعه على Infopop (الشركه المالكه لـ UBB) ولكن قوبل اقتراحهم بالرفض، وبسبب الطلب على البرنامج قام John و James بإنشاء جيل سوفت وعرض برنامج للبيع، هكذا اتى vBulletin 1.

بعد مجموعه من الاصدارات المتتابعه، قرر الاثنان البدء بإصدار جديد يكون أكثر من مجرد اعادة كتابه لـ UBB وكانوا يريدون الدخول في المنافسه، وعندها بدأ vBulletin 2، بعد ذلك بقليل أصبح James Limm مدير الاداره و John Percival رئيس المطورين، وللمساعده في المشروع انضم مطورين اثنين وهما Freddie Bingham و Mike Sullivan لإنهاء vBulletin 2 وانضم فيما بعد Kier Darby في المراحل التجريبيه من vBulletin. كانت هذه الاصداره ناجحه جداً وهي التي جعلت المنتج مشهوراً.

في ديسمبر 2002 بدأ تطوير vBulletin 3 وقرر John Percival التنحي عن منصبه كرئيس مطورين ومدير مشروع وانتقلت مهامه إلى Kier Darby، اخذ هذا الاصدار فترة طويله من اجل تطويره - ما يقارب السنتين - ولم يكن مجرد تحسين لـ vBulletin 2 ولكنه كان اعادة كتابه، على اي حال انتهى الاصدار 3 في مارس 2004.

في 2005 تم إصدار vBulletin 3.5 بهدف التخلص من عيوب 3.0 وفي 3 اغسطس 2006 تم إطلاق النسخه 3.6 كنسخه ثابته.

بيع جيل سوفت

في 4 يوليو 2007 تم الاعلان انه تم بيع جيل سوفت لـ Internet Brands. المؤسس المشارك للشركه هو James Limm، اما John Percival ترك الشركه من اجل ممارسة اهتماماته الأخرى.

الاصدارات

الاعلان الأول عن هذا الاصدار كان في 4 اغسطس 2008. وإعتمدت رسميا في 8 يناير 2009 الهدف من هذه الاصدار هو ادخال بعض التحسينات والمميزات الموجودة في الاصدار 3.7 لتخرج اصداره جديدة وهي 3.8 أما الهدف الثاني هو رغبة في‌بوليتين في انهاء مسيرة الاصدار الثالث بهذه الاصدارة.

من مميزات هذه الاصدارة بشكل عام :

• تحسين مناقشات المجموعة الاجتماعية
• إضافة تصانيف للمجموعات الاجتماعية
• إضافة نظام فلترة أو تصفية للرسائل الخاصة
• إضافة أيقونات للمجموعات الاجتماعية
• نقل ملكيات المجموعة الاجتماعية من شخص إلى آخر
• إضافة الرد السريع في نظام الرسائل الخاصة
• إضافة نظام تحديد كمية عدد الرسائل المرسلة في وقت محدد
• إضافة ابلاغ الإدارة عن أية رسائل خاصة مخالفة.

بالإضافة إلى العديد من الاضافات والتحسينات الأخرى

الاعلان الأول عن هذا الاصدار كان في 23 نوفمبر 2007. وإعتمدت رسميا في 29 أبريل 2008 و لقد تمت عن النسخة السابقة بإضافات :

• الكلمات الدليلية للمواضيع
• البحث بالكلمات الدليلية
• إمكانية الأعضاء في التحكم في شكل ملفهم الشخصي
• إظهار الصور المرفقة بالأجاكس
• خاصية مواقع النشر
• مكتبة الصور

بالإضافة إلى العديد من الخصائص الأخرى..

تم في هذا الاصدار توفير مجموعه من التعديلات التي لم تكن متوفره في الاصدارات السابقه مثل :

• نظام الاقتباس المتعدد.
• نظام الإخلال.
• دعم الـ Podcast.
• نظام RSS

كان هذا الاصدار يعتني ببعض المشاكل التي واجهها المستخدمون في 3.0، وبعض التعديلات في هذا الاصدار :

• توفير دعم لـ AJAX في بعض المواضع.
• توفير نظام API لتسهيل عملية التطوير على مبرمجي الاضافات.

كان هذا الاصدار عباره عن امتدادات لإصدارات 2.0، وبعض الميزات التي كانت تميزه عن الاصدارات 2 :

• استخدام XHTML وCSS في القوالب.
• دعم تعدد اللغات.
• دعم محرر WYSIWYG.

الاصدارات 2

لم تعد هذه الاصدارات تحت التطوير إلا إذا كانت هناك تحديثات امنيه، ومن الميزات التي كانت تميز هذه الاصدارات عن الاصدارات 1 هي :

• الرسائل الخاصه.
• الاستفتاء.
• استخدام الصور الرمزيه.
• لوحة تحكم للمستخدم.

vBulletin 4

vBulletin 4 was released December 21, 2009. New for vBulletin 4 is the vBulletin production suite, which includes CMS and blog functions.

The latest stable release is V4.0.8 as of the 21st of October 2010.

Future development

On August 4, 2008, Kier Darby, former lead developer of vBulletin announced the development of vBulletin 3.8 and vBulletin 4.0. vBulletin 4 was described in this announcement as "an extensive rewrite of the vBulletin system. Architecturally, vBulletin 4 follows MVC (model-view-controller) object oriented principles, allowing far greater capabilities in code re-use and extendability." At the time, the requirements of vBulletin 4 were "PHP 5.2.3 and MySQL 5.0.22 or newer".

On December 15, 2008, James Limm, Managing Director of Jelsoft, posted the vBulletin 4 Series Development Update with significant differences from the August announcement.

In August, we announced a major overhaul of the code base. Rather than targeting all of these changes in a single, long-term release, we intend to accomplish all the planned improvements over a number of versions. In order to achieve this goal, the largest vBulletin development team ever assembled is now working within an Agile development process, allowing us to deliver new features into your hands faster.

Each incremental release in the vBulletin 4 series will include improvements in features, usability and architecture. Development efforts are prioritized towards those areas that can provide real, tangible benefits to our customers, at all times with an eye toward maintaining and enhancing the performance and reliability expected of a vBulletin product.

Key features and improvements that will be included in the first vBulletin 4 release are:

1. Cross-content search system providing a single interface to search across forum posts, blog entries and comments and other supported products
2. Improved search performance
3. A fresh design and layout making use of semantic markup and CSS styling
4. An enhanced style and template system to enhance your ability to change the layout
5. Controls to assist with the placement of advertising elements
6. SEO features, including friendly URLs
7. A centralized attachment system, allowing the sharing of attachments across products
8. Widget system for single pages
9. Video BBCode - Popup to the editor that allows a video url (youtube, metacafe, etc) to be input

In the lengthy discussions which followed this turn of events, additional information was revealed, including that:

• The PHP and MySQL requirements won't be raised as high as announced in August, because the first release will be sooner than previously expected
• Jelsoft is now developing a Content Management System which will be fully integrated with vBulletin although it is unclear whether it will be sold separately like Jelsoft's Blog and Projects products.
• vBulletin 4 is now being developed and will be released incrementally through 2009, with the first Beta expected "early Q2 of 2009". In a later post, the first Beta got pushed back to "late Q2". For users that paid the pre-sale cost for vBulletin 4.0, a message stating that the Beta will be available "sometime in mid-November" was issued.

Forum and Suite

vBulletin is now available as two product lines. The vBulletin Publishing Suite is $285 for the life of the 4.x development cycle and includes customer ticket support. The vBulletin Classic Forum is $195 for the life of the 4.x development cycle but does not include ticket support.

The vBulletin Publishing Suite includes Forums, an article-based Content Management System and the vBulletin Blog product.

vBulletin Blog

Now included in the vBulletin Publishing Suite, the vBulletin Blog allows members of a vBulletin community to create their own blogs. vBulletin Blog 1.0.5 was released to the public on April 8, 2008. With the release of vBulletin 4.0, the vBulletin Blog became part of the vBulletin Publishing Suite.

vBulletin Project Tools

This host of tools tracks bugs, tasks, etc. throughout the development of a product through its production and lifetime. vBulletin Project Tools 2.0.0 was released to the public on September 30, 2008. With the release of vBulletin 4.0, active development of Project Tools has been discontinued. It will become an open source product distributed through vBulletin.org.

vBulletin 4 release and controversy

On July 4, 2007, Jelsoft was acquired by Internet Brands. On January 27, 2009, Ray Morgan was appointed General Manager of Jelsoft. On May 13, 2009, the Administration section of vBulletin.com accidentally became accessible to the public for 13 minutes. Documents and discussions containing a detailed analysis of plans (and expected customer reaction) for vBulletin 4's new pricing scheme were revealed. A response was posted by Ray Morgan indicating that these were preliminary discussions and that customers should not make decisions based on leaked documents. On June 19, 2009, Kier Darby, lead developer of vBulletin since early in the development of version 2, left the company, as well as Mike Sullivan (joined Fall 2000) and Scott MacVicar. Jeremy Hutchings moved to part time to maintain ImpEx the data migration system.

On July 2009, Peterska2 (Kerry-Anne) and Ashley part company with vBulletin. Jelsoft offices in the UK were closed shortly thereafter. On August 19, 2009, Alpha testing of vBulletin begins with a selection of licensed customers under a Non-disclosure Agreement. On October 13, 2009, Ray Morgan announces new vBulletin.com website, new vBulletin licensing structure, and pricing. This announcement was nearly identical to the May 2009 leaked documents. Replacing the annual renewal of $60, the new vBulletin Forum license was priced at $195, with the Suite costing $285. With an announced release cycle of 18–24 months for each point release, this was a cost increase of 200%. Customers with an inactive license were offered a small discount off the Suite and had less than 3 weeks to upgrade. Ironically, customers with the smallest investment in the product—Leased License customers—received the most cost-advantageous deal.

On October 23, 2009, The vBulletin.com website is upgraded to the vBulletin 4 software including a new splash page and FAQ. vBulletin.com is down for an unprecedented 28 hours during this upgrade, with visitors to the site being redirected to a maintenance message at Internet Brands-owned http://www.best-forum-software.com/. When the site returned, it remained sporadically inaccessible due to high loads for several days. On November 12, 2009, vBulletin 4.0 Beta 3 is made available to licensed customers. Previous betas were made available to the alpha testers. Beta 4 and 5 as well as 2 Release Candidates would follow in quick succession. On December 7, 2009, Ray Morgan retires to the tropics.

On December 22, 2009, vBulletin 4.0 Gold is released to the public amid customer concerns that it met a predetermined release schedule rather than producing a stable product Substantial display issues in browsers including Safari, Opera, and Internet Explorer 6 are documented. The Content Management System resulted in over 100 MySQL queries even in the default configuration. On January 12, 2010, vBulletin 4.0.1 is released with over 200 bug fixes and style tweaks. On April 8, 2010, vBulletin 4.0.3 is released with over 300 bug fixes as well as simple integration with Facebook Connect for single-signon between customer's boards and Facebook. On June 18, 2010, vBulletin 4.0.4 is released with over 450 bug fixes. Release came out with some "showstopper" bugs, some of them prevents upgrade process from working as expected. No PL fix came out as of June 23 so all users are encouraged to read this thread to fix critical issues right after installation. On June 24, 2010, vBulletin 4.0.4 PL1 is out, but no showstopper bugs are fixed there except two widget bugs according to official announcement.

Controversy over Google AdSense integration through vBulletin.com

When installing this version and using the AdSense integration provided by vBulletin.com, users are agreeing to allow Internet Brands to access information about the performance of their ad units. Internet Brands will also be given a monetary referral credit if someone signs up for an AdSense account through a link on the vBulletin forum rather than the owner of the forum.

The owner of the forum is also agreeing to potentially share revenue in the future. While the percentage of revenue sharing is currently set to 0%, a vBulletin Team Member has stated it may be subject to change in the future.

Users are required to opt-out of data sharing if they have activated the AdSense integration and linked their vBulletin.com account with their AdSense account, but by doing so are left unable to use the integration features.

This is not 100% clear during the sign up process, and Internet Brands has not yet released a statement about how they will use the information gathered from linked AdSense accounts, leading to potential privacy issues and a competitive advantage for future Internet Brands owned websites.

الاصدارات 1 و vBulletin Lite

لم تعد هذه الاصدارات تحت التطوير أو الدعم، vBulletin 1 كانت الاصدارات الأوليه لـ vBulletin، تحتوي هذه الاصدارات على نفس ميزات UBB.classic، كانت هذه الاصداره مشهوره كما أنها كانت واحده من أوائل البرامج التي كُتبت باستخدام PHP وMySQL والتي تحتوي على مميزات UBB.classic.

اما vBulletin Lite كانت عباره عن اصداره مجانيه مُصغره من vBulletin 1 لتسمح للعملاء ان يجربوا vBulletin على خوادمهم ويختبرون مدى التوافق، بعد vBulletin 2 تم إلغاء هذا الاصدار لانه لم يُحدّث منذ مدّه وكان يحتوي على مشاكل امنيه كما أن جيل سوفت كانت لا تريد قضاء وقت في إدارة منتجات غير تجاريه.
