Work a second Job while in the Army

From 3arf

The Army is paying much more to its soldiers than it used to, however it still may be necessary to work a second job while in the Army.  Emergencies and debt can easily eat away at the salary you earn while in the military, and so the hunt for a second job starts.  However, with the Army being a full time job it can be difficult to fit in a second job.  So use these tips to find the perfect second job for you.

Start by deciding what works for your schedule.  Are there certain times of the day or days of the week that you are off?  Or is your Army work schedule more sporadic?  You must have an idea of what your schedule looks like before you can take a second job.  So sit down and find out what time you typically have to spare.

If you are one of the lucky soldiers who has a very set work schedule, then a traditional second job should work well for you.  Try to find a job where the peak times to work and earn money are nights and weekends, since that is probably when you have off.  Waiting tables, pizza delivery and retail stores are all places that are busier during these times.  So when you start looking for a second job, these are the places to start.  During any interviews you have, be sure to disclose that you are Army and that those duties will come before any second job.  If you are upfront about this now, it will make things easier on everyone down the road.

If you do not have a set schedule to work off of, then working a traditional second job is probably not going to be right for you.  Instead, look for work that you can do on the side in your free time.  Mowing lawns, fixing cars or becoming a handy man are all good ways to earn money if you cannot work a second job.  Look at your talents and interests and see if you can create a small side business off of that.

However, sometimes neither option will work for you.  In these rare cases you should turn to online work to bring in extra money.  Write articles for Helium or earn money filling out offers on InboxDollars.  Thousands of people earn a good part time income doing these things in their spare time and so can you.  Just make sure to do your research so you do not get scammed.

As you can see, working a second job while in the Army is possible.  Often it takes some extra effort to find a good part time job, but it is well worth the effort.  Now that you have the knowledge, hit the pavement and find a second job you can work while in the Army.
