Why to Add Handwritten Messages to your Holiday Cards

From 3arf

Remember the good old days when it was an annual tradition to hand select, write out and address, Christmas cards? It used to be such a big occasion that some people had little parties to kick off the season, which included making and trading homemade cards! Some people had so many cards to send out that it actually took them an entire weekend to get them all done up and mailed out. Nowadays, people almost seem to view sending out Christmas cards as pointless. Oh some people still send out cards, ones they do not even hand-sign their own signature!

To those who still buy a box of cards and go through the effort to mail them out, please do not forget to add ahandwrittenpersonal note in each card. You may not realize just how much that personal message means to loved ones receiving your cards.

  • Personal. Handwriting a message to each card recipient is more special than simply stamping on the family seal. You can add little updates to what is happening in your life and let them know they received a unique card. The truth is that this card may make the recipient feel good and even be tempted to send one back to you!
  • Shows you took the time. No matter how busy your Christmas time is, taking the time to send personalized Christmas cards shows people that they are worth the time and effort it took you to do it. It lets them know that even though you are not together in person, you are still thinking of them at this blessed time of year.
  • Nostalgia. If nothing else, the older folks you know might enjoy receiving a handwritten Christmas card from you because it brings back fond memories of when they used to send out their cards. It kind of hearkens back to a simpler time when people were not always in such a blasted hurry to get the holiday over with. Not so long ago, some people used to look forward to receiving cards in the mail throughout the season almost as much as opening gifts on Christmas morning!

It is unfortunate that in the modern world, many people do not take the time to even send out (by mail) Christmas cards, let alone hand-write a personal message on them. Many people now send electronic cards through their email or a text message on their cell phone. These are neat and convenient options for sending Christmas greetings, but they lack the time and personal effect of handwritten cards.
