Why everyone should Participate in Volunteer Recognition Day
What would happen to our world if no man cared for another? What if humans failed to do anything for the animals of our earth? If no one bothered to worry for our environment or future, where would people be in even a few short years? Our society much relies on these people who take it upon themselves to do work that involves no pay. Cleaning a park, walking and playing with shelter dogs, and helping to feed the homeless are all things many do to help out regardless of the fact that they can’t be paid. Why participate in Volunteer Recognition Day? These unpaid helpers are making it a better world for everyone.
Volunteer Recognition Dayis April 20th. This holiday is one that is not well known by many or printed on most calendars, but is still a very important day. Volunteers are heroes in their own right, doing work that some find too time consuming or unimportant in their eyes. However, if there were none who cared about those less fortunate, this would be a very sad place to live in. No homeless shelters or soup kitchens available to those who find themselves without anything in the world. No animal shelters for pets who find themselves rejected by those who used to love them. No groups spending many hours combing the parks, roadways and bodies of water for trash and other pollution.
It isn’t easy work finding time to help others for no pay when there are jobs, families, hobbies and activities to fill your life with, but volunteers see the importance in it. Some even take it upon themselves tovolunteeras a large part of their life, being unpaid fireman or EMT drivers, often saving lives. There is no doubt that without all that volunteer, society would be a completely heartless and eventually crumble. Volunteers often do not seek recognition but do it as a way to feel good and know they are doing their part to make a better world. Many would call these people angels in human form.
There is no reason for someone to not recognize these volunteers for the work they do. As writer William Arthur Ward said, “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” You may appreciate what volunteers do, but you should show it as well. Those that run non-profit organizations often try to show extra appreciation on these days with a free meal and special event for volunteers. Some places even offer awards to exemplary volunteers who have giving a certain amount of their time to an organization. Some even put pictures up of their volunteers so all know who those special people are. Regardless of how they show it, the places these people do their volunteer work know how important they are and make sure they know it.
Any person who can appreciate another who does volunteer work should take time out of their day to recognize those who do this unpaid work. Without volunteers society would go nowhere. Our world could not afford pay people to do all the good that needs done. Volunteers are priceless and put in so many hours it would be impossible to compensate them monetarily, but they do not care, they do it for the satisfaction of helping others in need and to help everyone. Next time you meet someone who does volunteer work take a minute of your time to thank them for the many hours they have dedicated to good deeds. Someday you may find yourself in the shoes of that homeless man or in a blazing fire in your own home and without that volunteer who helped you would become just another statistic. It should not even be a question as to why all should participate in Volunteer Recognition Day whether it’s a simple “thank you,” donating some time yourself, or creating a delicious buffet for all those unpaid staff.
