Why being Lazy could be Bad for your Career
Unfortunately, if you happen to be a naturally lazy person you may not achieve all the career goals you’d like to. You may have grand plans and wild schemes to help you get where you want to be, but if you’re not prepared to put in the work you’re unlikely to succeed. It is clear that to end up with a successful career you have to get a decent education, be prepared to go job hunting and to work hard once you get a job. This can be difficult to do when you’re lazy.
While some people have the determination and focus to achieve everything they want, if you’re a dreamer you may not succeed. It is one thing to imagine doing well in your career, but it’s another to actually make it happen. Being lazy makes it incredibly difficult to motivate yourself to do anything and this apathy generally starts in school. If you don’t put the effort into your schoolwork that you should, you won’t get the grades you need to get into college or university and you well probably end up stuck in a dead-end job.
You have to go looking for a job first, though, which is challenging enough as it is, but even more so when you don’t have any qualifications and you’re lazy. It might be tempting to rely on your parents or claim unemployment benefits, but you can’t do this forever. Eventually you’ll have to get a job and there is a good chance it will be low-paid and unskilled. It probably won’t be particularly fulfilling and you may be easily distracted, which won’t exactly make you a candidate for employee of the month.
If you don’t have any motivation and are very lazy you may just stay in the same job for as long as you can, without trying to develop new skills. When you don’t have experience in any other areas it doesn’t make your job search any easier if you ever find yourself out of work. The reality is you’ll be restricted to a very limited selection of jobs that offer poor pay and little career progression.
It is therefore clear that laziness can hold you back and prevent you from realistically pursuing the career you’d like to. Only you have it within your power to alter the situation, though, and so you need to find something that motivates you to work a little bit harder. This is the only way you’ll ever get anywhere in life.
