Why are People so Negative in the Workplace

From 3arf

There are two kinds of people in the world: negative and positive. Negative people often find something wrong with anything and everything. Some people are so negative that they find things wrong with even the best things in life. Instead of being thankful for the blessings they experience, they find reasons to complain and make themselves miserable. In today’s work environment, people should be thankful that they still have a job to go to each day because there are many who are not.

Negative feelings, in the workplace are a common reality but during times of difficulty, negative thinking and negative actions increase. Why do people become so negative at work?

Undervalued

Many people feel that they are taken for granted and not given enough respect by the employers. These people feel that their contributions are not placed in a level of high value for the organization. Often employees feel that their efforts never receive the kind of value that they add to the company. These feelings often will lead to negative feelings and behavior toward the company.

Underpaid

Most employees feel that they are worth more than their current level of salary. Employees often feel like the company undervalues their efforts and thus pays them far less than they are worth. When an employee feels that they are underpaid for the work that they are doing, they often become negative. Negative about the company and about their level of compensation.

Overworked

Many companies have been forced to cut back in many different areas. Financial setbacks have forced companies to make tough choices and cut personnel. These cutbacks have caused companies to try to do the same amount of work with fewer employees. These labor decisions are forcing companies to push their current employees to work longer and harder.

Employees often feel that they are overworked because they are forced to carry heavy loads. Employees are doing more work for the same amount of pay. Overworked employees are often also negative employees. They become negative about their work situation and conditions. These employees often complain about their situation with other employees. This negativity often poisons the work environment and has a negative impact on the company.

One negative employee can poison the mindset of the entire staff. Employers need to understand the importance of attitude and how those attitudes impact the company. The more negative the environment, the lower the possible productivity. Negative thinking and attitudes will dramatically impact the workplace.

The workplace can become a breeding ground for resentment, anger, bitterness and negative attitudes. Does becoming negative help anything? Absolutely not! The more negative a person becomes, the worse their situation grows. A negative outlook does nothing but shadow the bright spots of life and work. Being negative will only fuel feelings of resentment and anger over workplace issues.
