Why a Toyota Avalon may be better than a Cadillac

From 3arf

Right now. Everything that MTV says about what cars rich people prefer is wrong. They say that to arrive, you have to have the Caddilac. That if you're rich, thats what you drive. This is false. Sure you may think they're in the money, but they're not. Thats what they want you to think. I cant tell you how many times I've seen brand new Cadillac Escalades pulling into the driveways of old dilapidated homes. This isn't true for every cadillac driver, but you don't see many caddys parked in palaces. So why is this? Well, I'll tell you. Any REAL rich person will know that it's a horrible investment. It's practically a money pit. What most rich people drive, will surprise you, are Toyota Avalons. There's a reason for this. RESALE VALUE. I did some research on new and used prices. I compared the Cadillac STS, and a CTS to a comprable Toyota Avalon, and here are the numbers. The new DTS/DeVille was starting at around 45k. The CTS started around 37k. The Avalon was starting at a much lower 30k. Now lets look at the average price of a 2002-2003 model, just 4 years ago. The DTS/DeVille was going for an average of 17k. The CTS was going for an average of 19k. The Avalon was going for an average of 16k. When you do the math, you'll realize that in just 4 years, the DTS/DeVille lost around 28k. THATS 28 THOUSAND! The CTS lost about 18k, but the Avalon only lost about 14.They all have similar features, like leather and full power (windows, doors, etc), and have navigation. They all have very nice audio systems. The CTS has a 3.6 liter v6 and a manual transmission. The Avalon has a 3.5 liter v6 and an automatic transmission. The DTS has a 4.8 liter V8 (thats not a very large V8)and an automatic. They all get comprable gas mileage. Mostly i could assume that you are paying for the cadillac name. After that though, you have to pay for insurance. Insurance on a Cadillac is pretty hefty. So it really is a money pit. You can decide for yourself which of the three cars is the better, but I'd say that if you are money conscious, the Avalon would be your best choice.
