Why Research is Essential for Interview Success
From 3arf
If you want to be successful at an interview it is extremely important that you do your research before attending. The difference between getting the job and not getting it could depend upon the research you have done. Below are some reasons as to why it is important to carry out some investigations before attending your interview.
- EnthusiasmIf you have researched the company which is interviewing you, it will be apparent and the people who are interviewing will see that you have been enthusiastic enough to spend some time researching them first. It will show that you are a passionate, committed individual and they will appreciate the fact that you have taken time to find out about who they are, their values and what they entail. Enthusiasm is a vital characteristic within any work place.
- Tailor your responsesIf you have researched the company well before attending the interview you will be aware of what the company is about and what skills and traits that they are looking for. This will enable you to tailor your interview responses to suit the company, you will be able to show off your best skills that you know will benefit them. If you haven't looked into the company beforehand you may be very well equipped to fit in but you may not be aware of the skills you need to be emphasising and so it may not be as a successful interview.
- Is it for you?Sometimes it is easy to send in an application form and not think much more about it and then when you are offered an interview you may realise you don't actually know much about the job or company at all. In conducting some research you may realise that actually this type of organisation will not suit you and that attending the interview will not actually be worth while. Alternatively you may also find that it is a company that you would love to work for and hopefully this will shine through at your interview and will make you a very appealing candidate.
- Prepare wellIf you know the background of the company you may be able to prepare well for the interview. You may be ready for the questions; maybe you will be aware of what kinds of questions will be asked and the kind of appropriate responses to make. If you are well prepared you will be much more confident during the interview and this can be a huge benefit.
- Question timeUsually at the end of an interview you will be asked whether you have any questions. It is always extremely important that you do ask a question as this will show that you are interested and able to use your imagination. If you have researched the organisation in advance then it will be easier for you to formulate some questions which you can ask. Maybe you will be able to ask about any training they can offer you or how a restructure has changed the company.
Researching your potential new employers is very important before attending a job interview. It can make you stand head and shoulders above others as you will be more confident, able to tailor your responses carefully and will show your enthusiasm which will impress.
