Where to find outstanding auto touch up kits
It's bound to happen to even the most careful person - a scratch or chip in thepaint of your car. Depending on the depth of the scratch or chip, it can quickly turn into rust! You'll want to do a touch up as soon as you can in order to prevent further damage. Furthermore, you'll want to match the touch up paint exactly or as close as possible.
The best place to get an identical match is a specific dealer for your make of vehicle. It does not have to be the exact one where you purchased your vehicle; all dealerships will have access to the same suppliers. Simply give them your VIN number (located visibly through the windshield on the driver's side in the very right corner, or also on your vehicle's ownership/title) and they will be able to determine your paint code. Request a small bottle and in many cases they can provide it at a very low cost.
Another great source of touch up paint is a reputable collision repair shop. They have access to thousands of paint choices, many of them in the colors of major manufacturers. You can give them your VIN number also; but, for any reason, if they cannot get your exact paint code then you may have to call a local dealer of your make to get it. If you're still unable to get the exact match, collision repair shops will match it as closely as possible...many of them have computerized paint matching software that can even match to paint that has faded over time.
Lastly, try an automotive parts retailer. Check the body and paint repair section for paint touch up cans or bottles. You may be able to find the match you need with any luck, but typically they only carry basic colors so you may have to be creative. However, a close match is better than an ugly scratch or chip.
If you are unable to get your touch up paint right away, a great idea for the time being is to use nail polish. It is very durable and can withstand weeks of wear! Find a color close to that of your vehicle and dab some on the affected area of your vehicle until you are ready to do the actual touch up. A small amount of nail polish remover will take it off and you can then begin your touch up.
