Where to Find well Paying Flight Attendant Jobs
A recent news report told us the story of a flight attendant who not only made so little as to qualify for government assistance with food stamps, but to add insult to injury, lost her job immediately after she told her story. The reason for the loss of her employment is still being hashed out by the airline and the flight attendant, but to the public eye, it has the appearance of a job loss due to exposure of the extremely low pay that these men and women are receiving. Flight attendants were once considered people who had achieved career status, but the glory days of flight attending appears to be coming to a swift end, as pay goes down yet expectations continue to rise in the light of flight safety precautions now necessarily more important that ever before.
There are certainly benefits to becoming a flight attendant, which, for some people, outweigh the fact that the pay is not keeping up with the times. There is the opportunity to travel, to meet a variety of people, to work in an atmosphere in the skies, and to be that friendly face that passengers want to see. Flight attending is not the job for just anyone, though. It is extremely demanding, often exhausting, and usually not the path to financial wealth. There are some ways that a person who is interested in this career can find jobs that will pay better than others in the same field, though.
One of the things that a hopeful flight attendant can look into is corporate flying, rather than the standard commercial airlines. When you are attending corporate flights, you are going to be serving and assisting primarily business people who are flying relative to their careers. You are not only going to typically make a far higher wage, but you are also going to have other benefits, as well. There are almost always going to be less passengers and most of them are going to be adults who are fairly self-sufficient and just want to enjoy a relaxing flight. Your service and demeanor will need to be very professional, but overall, the job can be far easier than attending on commercial flights.
If you are interested in being a flight attendant in the world of commercial flying, however, there are still some airlines that pay a higher wage than others. You are typically going to want to look into the larger nationwide airlines, as opposed to those that fly only in a particular region. Although this is not always true, in general these larger airlines will be more profitable for you.
There are also foreign airlines to consider. You may make substantially more flying for an airline that is based in another country, as well as getting the experience of a whole new culture. It is unfortunate, but true, that many of the foreign airlines still consider flight attendants, pilots, and other members of the flight crew at a much higher standard than the American airlines currently do. The glory days of flying haven't ended around the world, after all, only in the United States where flying has become a commonplace that people just take for granted.
Choosing a career as a flight attendant requires that a person is willing to serve, be friendly, be professional, and possibly even put the safety of their passengers ahead of their own. It is not a career for everyone, but there are certainly some people that cannot imagine a more satisfying or exciting career choice, regardless of the pay. However, seeking out the best pay possible for the incredibly demanding job you are looking into is both prudent and much more profitable.
