What not to do when the Police Pull you over

From 3arf

Getting pulled over happens to everyone. As long as you are courteous, they may let you go with just a warning. Even if you do get arrested, not following their instructions can get you into deeper trouble. Here are some things you should not do when you get stopped by the police.

Do not try to outrun them- The cops have custom cars, know the area well, and are trained for this sort of thing. There are also several more of them than there are of you and they have radios and helicopters. You are not going to get away. Even if you are scared to go to jail making them chase you isn’t the answer. This will just cause you to get extra time.

Do not get out the car- When you pull over and get out the car it may be an innocent gesture, but the cop might think you are trying to run. They may even see it as hostile and assume you are trying to hurt them. You should only get out of your vehicle when instructed by the officer.

Do not dig around in your car- This looks suspicious to the policeman when he is walking up to your car. He may think you are trying to hide drugs or weapons. If you are still fumbling around after he gets to your window he may even suspect that you are reaching for a weapon. Your best bet is to wait until he asks you for your license and insurance before looking for it.

Do not argue with the cop- Even if you feel the ticket is unjust, you should still remain calm. If the officer has already wrote you a ticket, debating with him will get you nowhere. You may feel wronged, but as they say in the movies, “Save it for the judge.”

Do not try to bribe the policeman- Offering the officer money, sex or anything else to get out of a ticket is illegal. Not only will it not help you, but you may end up facing more charges.

Do not joke too much- Trying to get the cop in a more lighthearted mood may be ok, but be careful. You don’t know what kind of sense of humor they have and you may say something to offend them. They might even feel you are not taking them serious and get angry with you.

These tips will make things go smoothly when you are pulled over. Just remember to be respectful and always follow their instructions.
