What is the Role of a Neighborhood Resource Officer
This article will serve as a tribute to the modern, well-trained and educated Gladiator, known as the (NRO's), Neighborhood Resource Officers. These modern warriors of young man and woman have received a partner in the war against crime. This new partner is the community in which they serve and help to protect.
This progressive approach, which has beings around for many years, will help remove some of the barriers and stigma associated with police work, existing between the Police and their communities across this nation.
In today's society, as new laws come into effect, the emphasis is in community policing. As a result, most communities have a greater knowledge of the responsibilities of police personnel during the performance of their duties. Further more, we have a greater amount of educated citizen's than before.

The other five percent (5%) is the heartbreaking, wrenching involvement in necessary police roles, such as search and seizure, arresting and imprisoning criminals.
An understanding by police personnel of their responsible role in police work is essential to perform and help gain job satisfaction. Departmental training provides the means and methods through which police officers achieve their proper role perspective. Most important, it firmly shows that aid to all citizens in need has become a service which all citizens of the community have come to expect and rely on from their police officers. Anything otherwise, is unacceptable by the community.
This expectation from citizens in the community is so deeply rooted as the expectation that all police officers will safeguard all life and property. The overall effectiveness of police officers as individuals should always be encourage, by their competency, but also by their integrity, honor in providing all the necessary services to the community by police enforcement procedures which is respectful of individuals rights.
Their effectiveness should not be judged by old outdate traditional departmental police policies. The old compulsory departmental quota, which some police departments still enforced.
The U.S. Attorney General and the Department of Justice should stress that all police agencies put a stop to these practices, which causes unnecessary tress on Police officers that are out on the streets preventing them from doing a more efficient job.
Emphasis in addressing the problem, which helps breed crime in communities, should take place. A joint effort and complete cooperation between the police and the community must take place for this great venture become a success
It is obvious to everyone, the proper role and responsibility of any modern police officer is to protect and serve. The truth is most of police officers go beyond the call of duty, not noticed by the community and at times resulting in loss of an officer's life.
Today's young man and woman, who put a uniform on, do so because they believe they can make a difference. They believe that just maybe they can make our world a little bit safer. They are better educated, with more life experience, and view the profession as an honorable one. They come from all walks of life, all colors and creed.
They also are sensitive to the needs of the public, more so than older generation of police officers.
These qualities help show the communities the high degree of professionalism that exists today in police agencies throughout the nation.
The old practice, of old hard-liner methods of going into a neighborhood by force, taking names and kicking ass is no longer. The harsh and overzealous police officers who threatens or violates the rights of individual citizens and help alienate the population in a community from its police is no longer acceptable
