What is a Bridge Crane

From 3arf

There are a lot of dangerous jobs. The fact of the matter is that a lot of people risk their life just to make a living. It takes a certain person to do risky bueiness. I would like to give my husband and father-in-law credit in this subject. I live with a man who risk his life everyday. This subject hits me on a personal level. My husband and his father own and operate a overhead bridge crane business. Everyday they spend their time walking on beams anywhere from 40ft up to 375ft off the ground. The only thing that is holding them in the air is a safety harness. Let's be honest if you fall 375ft to the ground that harness is not going to save your life.

Everyday they go up in a man lift or scissor lift to get to the job for the day. They have to take two hundred pound motors off of theses cranes and safely carry them to the ground. Walking across beams no wider then ten inches with a train rail. This is like trying to get to your job site on a tight rope. Sometimes these beams are covered with oil from the the brakes of the crane. So you are not only on a tight rope but you are on a slippery tight rope. The risk these men take everyday just to make a paycheck is scary. There is no hazard pay and there is not jumping off point. As they walk across these beams to make repairs or do the maintenance they have to worry about there surroundings. Just think about it like this. There is nothing to your left or to your right. So if you have to move in a hurry there is no where to go. Forward or back that is the choice.

While walking these beams everyday they also have the risk of being electrocuted. There are these things called power-bar right above them. If they touch them they will be blown right off the crane to their death. Many of times they have to worry about somebody accidentally flipping a switch back on to the power. That is a accident waiting to happen. Working hundreds of feet in the air with so many worries and weight to carry makes for a very dangerous job. The pay to work on overhead bridge cranes is very high if your are certified. But honestly it is not enough, because what we could lose could never be replaced with any amount of money. I am a woman who lives with a man who risk his life everyday to make sure his kids and wife can eat.

There is never a day, even if we are fighting that we don't tell each other that we love each other. We prey everyday that this be another day that he comes home safe. I would like to dedicate this article to my husband and father-in-law. This is to all the men who risk there lives for all the people of the world. Without these men a lot of products would not be able to be shipped or produced. I give thanks everyday for the hard workthat the men in our family do. For those of you who do not know what a bridge crane is, google it you will be horrified.
