What is Thanksgiving the Purpose of Thanksgiving the Real Meaning of Thanksgiving

From 3arf

Everyone has a reason to be thankful, and while we should count our blessings each and every day, the purpose of Thanksgiving is a day that is set aside especially for reflecting on these blessings. It is a day when families and friends unite, and perhaps the only time that everyone is together in one place. The purpose of Thanksgiving is to share our homes, our bounty and to be thankful for the world in which we live.

As the Pilgrims set out on their journey for freedom to worship as they pleased without prosecution, their voyage was not without pain, agony and loss. However, they continued with their plight and fought to pursue their mission for a better life. When they reached America and started their own colony, instead of reveling in the hardships, the pain and suffering, and the time in which it took them to achieve their plan, they rejoiced, made peace with the Indians, and learned from them how to survive by fishing, planting, hunting and working together.

Being thankful for their accomplishments, they shared their good fortunes of food and fellowship with one another, bringing about the purpose of Thanksgiving, to give thanks and show appreciation for their rewards.  In following with tradition, Thanksgiving is for reflecting on our lives, and realizing that although things could be better, they could also be worse.

Thanksgiving is a tradition in which memories are made, families and friends are once again reunited and the relationships rekindled, refreshed and looked upon as a blessing to be able to be together. It is a time to bond and help each other out, to rejoice in happy times and to strive for many more years to come. Preparing a meal and enjoying dinner together is but a part of the real purpose of Thanksgiving; however it is also a way to bring all together and to enjoy the moments of kinship.

Times are hard, but the simple things in life are often forgotten. Food to eat, a roof over our heads, health, employment, family, friends and freedom are but a few of the reasons in which to be thankful. While it may also be a difficult time for many, the purpose of Thanksgiving is to lift up the ones who are sick, missing a loved one, out of work or hungry. It is a way of giving back for some, and easing the pain of others.

Thanksgiving has a purpose, and it is a time which most look forward to. For those who are suffering, who can’t bear this time of year because of hurtful memories, it is a time to support and bring a little friendship and caring into their lives by inviting them to a day of feasting, and to relieve them of their pain, even for just a day. The purpose of Thanksgiving is to share, to enjoy, to help, to reflect, and to be thankful.
